Reflection: Submission Seems Impossible
by Shawn Brasseaux

[16 August 2009]

When we discussed the “Grace Lifer” series a few weeks ago, we were reminded that our old sin nature prevents us from living a life pleasing in God’s sight. This sin nature is what leads us to hell. It is after we experience salvation through faith in Jesus Christ alone that God imparts to us a new nature, the “new man” (2 Corinthians 5:17). It is this new nature empowered by the Holy Spirit that will enable us to live the “grace life.” Over the next five weeks, we will continue along those same lines with a new series, “Reflection,” because this theme of Scripture can never be exhausted!

* * *

The popular opinion is that everyone loves God, and that everyone is “God’s child.” According to the Scriptures, this is absolutely false! We are naturally born separated from God, and we are born enemies of God. Paul makes it abundantly clear that both Jew and Gentile have sinned. “For all have sinned, and come of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23 KJV). Now, some Christians say they no longer sin, but this is just wishful thinking because all Christians sin. In Romans chapter 7, Paul, God’s great Apostle of the Gentiles, knew what each of us Christians feel when we struggle with sin. According to verses 140-17, Paul wanted to do right because it would bring the Lord glory and honor, but his sin nature would get the best of him and he would sin. Romans 7:21 KJV says: “I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me.”

The lost world cannot quit their habitual sinning and wicked, godless lifestyles because they do not have the power imparted by the Holy Spirit. As Christians, we have to make the choice now: to let the Holy Spirit accomplish His will through us, or the Bible says that we can “quench” Him (hinder His work) and give in to the desires of the flesh. If we choose to follow the Holy Spirit, we will not “fulfill the lust [that is, the desire] of the flesh” (Galatians 5:16 KJV). As long as we allow the Holy Spirit to control us and let His Word work in us, we do not sin. We sin only when we give in to the fleshly desires of our sin nature.

Remember, the key to grace living is letting Christ live His life in you: He alone can live the life laid out in His Holy Word: “I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me” (Galatians 2:21 KJV).

The real you has died, crucified with Christ nearly 2000 years ago on Calvary’s cross. We as members of the Church the Body of Christ have received the new man. Consequently, Christians have two natures: the Adamic sin nature from birth and the new nature brought on by the indwelling Holy Spirit. The Bible says in Galatians 5:17 that these two natures are contrary to each other: they war against one another! “For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.” Whenever you feel the urge to do right, it is the new man, the new spirit, the new nature. But, when you desire to sin, that is evidence of the old sin nature trying to win the fight.

We rebel at the concept of submitting to God’s Word. Because we live in these sinful human bodies, it is difficult (seemingly impossible). But, we have the strength in Christ to submit to the working of the Holy Spirit in us. As we read, study, and place our faith in His rightly divided Word, the King James Bible, the Holy Spirit takes His Word and goes to work in our lives. “For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe” (1 Thessalonians 2:13).

Our Christian life started the moment we were saved by believing Paul’s Gospel of Grace (1 Corinthians 15:1-4), when we submitted to God’s Word in order to be saved from sin and hell. Now, we have to submit to the Lord in order to let His grace infiltrate us and motivate us, and He will use His Word to renew our vile human minds and transform us into His “workmanship” (Ephesians 2:10 KJV). God now wants to us to do good works for His glory.

Yes, it is hard part to let the Holy Spirit accomplish His will with you. He convicts you when you have an evil thought, but your sin nature urges you to continue dwelling on that thought. Eventually, that thought will influence your actions—the sin began with the thought, not the action. The Holy Spirit will guide you in the right direction, but you cannot help but sin, sin, sin! The key to this is to memorize Scripture to help you in these predicaments, and God’s Word will fight that battle for you.

Paul was a normal, sinful human like us; Jesus Christ, on the other hand, was submissive to His Father and never sinned once! In great anguish and heartache, Jesus Christ cried out to His Father God in Luke 22:42 KJV: “Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.” God the Son was submissive to the Father’s will, even when He foreknew that horrible death that awaited Him (cf. Psalm 40:6-8; Hebrews 10:5-7).

In Philippians chapter 2, the Apostle Paul expounds on the submissiveness of Christ. Let us notice what Paul wrote:

“5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:
6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:
7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:
8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.
9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:
10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;
11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”

In verse 5, the Bible says we Christians are to have the same mind that Jesus Christ had. Jesus Christ humbled Himself, subjected Himself to perform the work the Father sent Him to do: to die on Calvary! Likewise, we Christians have been sent into this world, to carry out the will of our heavenly Father—“to have all men to be saved and to come unto the knowledge of the truth” (1 Timothy 2:4 KJV). The same Holy Spirit that Christ was filled with is the Holy Spirit now residing in us the believers! If Christ could submit to the will of His heavenly Father, then He can help us to submit to God the Father’s will too!

Remember, the Christian ambassador is “a reflection of the heavenly homeland.”

Reflection II: Acceptance and Completeness in Christ
by Shawn Brasseaux

[23 August 2009]

Last week, in part I, we studied the Scriptures to learn that it is the Lord who lives His life in us the believers (Galatians 2:20). We cannot live perfect lives of grace as described in the Pauline epistles. Paul made it very clear in Romans chapter 7 that even Christians stumble in sin. But, as we learned, the key to living the grace life is to let the Word of God “effectually work” in us as we believe it (1 Thessalonians 2:13). In other words, after we read and study God’s Word God’s way, and respond to it with faith/trust, He takes the truth we have learned and transforms us from the inside out. We become less like our old sinful selves, and better represent our heavenly homeland.

* * *

The Bible says that we Christians are “complete in Christ” (Colossians 2:10). We do not need to perform religious rituals to get more blessings from God because it is impossible to merit favor with God through good works. As Christians saved by grace through faith without works (Ephesians 2:8,9), the Bible says that we have already been “accepted in the beloved” (Ephesians 1:6 KJV). Before salvation, we were evil, godless people, headed for a lost eternity. Then, God picked us up and said, “I forgive you.” We responded by faith, and we were saved immediately because God was pleased because we had faith in His Word (Hebrews 11:6). We need not “keep the Law” to receive God’s approval like the nation Israel did in time past. Today, God tells us the believers, “I accept you in Christ.”

In Philippians 4:19 KJV, the Bible says, “But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” As Christians, God has already equipped us to accomplish His will—everything He can provide for us He has already provided for us in Christ (He has not guaranteed our wants, only our NEED, the need of salvation). You may never live in a $10-million-dollar penthouse, you may never drive a BMW, but that is totally irrelevant because the Bible says, “And the world passeth away, and the lust [desire] thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth [lives] forever” (1 John 2:17 KJV). Our spiritual need has been met, and in eternity that is the only thing that matters.

The Bible says in Ephesians 1:3 KJV, “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ.” God’s blessings for us are in the form of invisible, spiritual rewards, stored up for us in heaven. We cannot see them yet, but they are waiting for us in glory! Be encouraged!

God has preserved His Word for us to read, so we can have our own copy in our own language (the King James Bible!). The indwelling Holy Spirit illuminates our minds and enables to understand His Word (1 Corinthians 2:6-16; Ephesians 1:8-12) and He consoles us with His grace (2 Corinthians 12:9).

Paul goes on to write throughout his epistles that sanctification, adoption, joint-heir-ship with Christ, justification, redemption, grace, eternal life, and forgiveness have been “imputed” (applied) to us who are “in Christ.” We are the recipients of these spiritual blessings because of what Christ did, not because of our own good deeds. Get in the habit of thanking the Lord for all these wonderful spiritual blessings, when you did not deserve them! We do not deserve now, and we will never, ever deserve them.

Be more concerned with the eternal and do not focus so much on temporal. Remember Colossians 3:2 KJV: “Set your affection [desire] on things above, not on things on the earth.” Even the exotic cars and beachfront mansions pale in comparison to what lies on the other side of glory! “But godliness with contentment is great gain” (1 Timothy 6:6), so be content with all of the provisions God has made for you in Christ! We in and of ourselves are insufficient, but we are complete in Christ (2 Corinthians 3:5). In Christ, God has equipped us with everything we need to be a reflection of our heavenly homeland.

And the good news is that Christians have an eternal home in heaven (we will talk more about that in the coming weeks in part V). What a thrill, and you should get excited as a Christian! Remember, the Bible says that you are complete in Christ!

As the saying goes: “G.R.A.C.E. = God’s Riches At Christ’s Expense.”

ARE YOU “IN CHRIST?” If you are not sure where you would spend eternity when you would die, I hope and trust that you will place your faith alone in Christ Jesus, who died for your sins, He was buried, and He was raised again for your justification (1 Corinthians 15:1-4).

Reflection III: Sound Doctrine in Conversation
by Shawn Brasseaux

[29 August 2009]

Thus far in the “Reflection” series, we have discovered that a Christian should have a subservient attitude toward God, just as the Son was obedient to the Father (Philippians 2:5-11). We should be bending toward God, allowing His Holy Spirit to use us to accomplish His will. In part II, we learned that we as Christians are complete in Christ (Colossians 2:10). We need nothing more than what God has already provided for us in His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ. Now, we delve a bit deeper in part III, learning how the sound doctrine we read in the Bible has the potential to bring about an outward reflection, so the lost world will view the lives of “ambassadors for the risen Christ!”

* * *

The Apostle Paul encouraged young Timothy to teach and preach sound Bible doctrine (1 Timothy 4:12-16; 2 Timothy 2:2; 2 Timothy 3:14-17; 2 Timothy 4:2; et al.). Most of Christendom today is teaching and preaching everything but sound doctrine. Oh, what a pity! In the latter days, the Bible says (2 Timothy 4:3,4 KJV):

“3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;
4 And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.”

Apostasy will become more and more widespread as we approach the time of the rapture, and the end of the Dispensation of the Grace of God. Our world is getting ready to embrace all the deception the antichrist will promote. Brethren, we stand firm in a solid understanding of the Word of God rightly divided, instead of being “tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine…” (Ephesians 4:14 KJV).

All of the Bible is God’s Word and all of the Bible is sound and trustworthy, so you should study all of God’s Word. But, you need sound and non-legalistic doctrine to live in this Dispensation of Grace. Paul is our apostle (Romans 11:13; Romans 15:16; 2 Timothy 1:11). Recall that the 13 Pauline epistles—Romans through Philemon—explain God’s present-day operations with man. It is through his 13 epistles alone that God addresses us in this Dispensation of Grace and as members of the Church the Body of Christ. Outside of the Pauline epistles, you find legalistic (Mosaic Law-keeping) doctrine addressing the nation Israel. Remember, this is what 2 Timothy 2:15 KJV means when it says, “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” What was written to Israel stays with Israel; do not be a spiritual thief! We need to separate God’s Word dealing with Israel from God’s Word dealing with us.

It is highly crucial that we not only have good Pauline doctrine in our minds and our hearts, but also in our “conversation.” Whenever the Authorized Version King James Bible uses the word “conversation,” it simply means “lifestyle or manner of living.” (In Philippians 1:27 and 3:20, it means “lifestyle reflecting citizenship”). It is rather interesting that when we think of “conversation,” we think of speaking to someone in an audible voice. However, we can “speak” to someone with our actions just like we can speak to them with our lips. Once we read and study the Bible, we should seal away that information in our hearts and minds. “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom: teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord” (Colossians 3:16 KJV). It is God’s Word that will mold us and sculpt us once we believe what it says. Let me show you what I mean.

The qualifications for the “bishop” (church overseer, pastor) were common sense. According to 1 Timothy chapter 3, he had to lead a respectable life. He was never expected to be sinless, but he had to be the example for the congregation. Likewise, the deacons (male helpers) also had to have good reputations. Christians should be reflecting the homeland; remember the definition of “ambassador?”

I love 1 Thessalonians chapter 1, where the Bible says that the believers in Thessalonica were genuine Christians. They were not “phonies” who only listened to Paul and the Gospel of Grace, but rather they lived sound doctrine. These former pagan Gentiles gave up their false idols of wood and stone, and followed the Lord. There was such a tremendous change in their conversation (lifestyle) that they were setting the example for believers in Macedonia and Achaia (present-day Greece)! Their “faith to God-ward was spread abroad” (verses 3-10). We should follow their example now. Do not be a hypocrite and only teach sound doctrine, live it!

As we tarry here in this present evil world, and wait for the rapture when the Lord Jesus Christ takes us home, we need to be soaking up sound Pauline doctrine (oftentimes, the false teachers distort Paul’s epistles more than they do the rest of Scripture). We need to be studying and memorizing the of the King James Bible . We should be as Paul wrote in 2 Corinthians 3:2, “[our epistle, letter] known and read of all men.” The lost world may not open a Bible, but they can see the life Christ living in us Christians! Everyone is watching how we live, so be sure you do not live carelessly and that you have a lifestyle displaying sound doctrine. Your speech, decisions, manners, and all the other parts of your life should be reflecting the grace life, the life you claim to have “in Christ.” You will stumble at times, but get back up, and learn from that mistake!

Titus 2:11-14 KJV:

“11 For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men,
12 Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;
13 Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;
14 Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.”

Next week, we will look at how to handle the pressure brought on by the lost world.

Reflection IV: Going Against the Grain
by Shawn Brasseaux

[5 September 2009]

These past three weeks in the “Reflection” series, we gained some insight regarding the struggle within the Christian. Our two natures—the sin nature, and the nature brought on by the indwelling Holy Spirit—conflict on a daily basis. We need to learn submission to the Holy Spirit, so we will not do the sinful things our flesh wants us to do. We learned in part II that, in Christ, we have complete and total security, and God has given us the provisions we need to be His “ambassadors,” His saints blessed with all spiritual blessings in the heavenly places! With God’s Word working effectually inside of us when we believe and trust it, our testimony impacts the world, and they see Christ living in us (from part III).

Now, as our lifestyles are reflecting God’s Word—the grace life—we will encounter “friction” from the unsaved world. How should you handle rejection and criticism from the lost world? We will look at that issue this week.

* * *

As Christians, we have two choices: (1) We can live according to the world’s standards and go against God’s Word—the carnal Christians, or (2) We can live in the power of the Holy Spirit and go contrary to the world—the spiritual/mature Christians. There is no neutral ground, for we cannot serve two masters! Oftentimes, I have seen many poor Christians choosing the first instead of the latter: they want to please man, not God (John 12:43). They have given in to intimidation and have compromised. This is not what the Lord wants. I want to strongly exhort (encourage) you in love to straighten up; any Christian who lives like the world is miserable and unhappy! Do not just believe the Message of Grace, live it for the lost world to see the grace of God!

Poor old Noah labored out in the desert for 120 years, building a giant ark of gopher wood. Consider the masses of passers-by who gawked and taunted him. The people of his day thought he was nuts, but when the floodwaters came pouring in Noah and his family were the only sane people, and the only survivors too. Because Noah went against the grain and had faith in God’s Word, his family was saved from the global flood (Hebrews 11:6-7).

About 600 B.C., Jeremiah repeatedly warned Israel of their rebellious attitude toward the Lord, but they continued their pagan idolatry. The Jews hated Jeremiah because he spoke the words of the Lord, so they imprisoned him, even in a muddy dungeon (Jeremiah 20:2,3; Jeremiah 38:6). Jeremiah certainly went against the grain, huh? He suffered for it, too. But, it was well worth the suffering!

Jumping up to the first century A.D., we find Paul ministering amongst the pagan Gentiles. In his second missionary journey, approximately A.D. 50, he comes across a group of Athenian intellectuals. Reading Acts 17:18 KJV, “then certain philosophers of the Epicureans, and of the Stoics, encountered him. And some said, What will this babbler say?…”

That word “babbler” means “one who spreads hear-say; a gossiper.” In other words, they were making fun of the Apostle. They thought Paul was foolish, but it was the other way around: they, the intellectuals and philosophers, they were foolish for relying on human viewpoints in philosophy instead of believing God’s Word and getting saved! When Paul gave his testimony to King Agrippa in Acts chapter 26, Agrippa responded with “Paul, thou art beside thyself; much learning doth make thee mad” (verse 24). Agrippa said, “Paul, you are crazy!” Nah, Paul was right, as Agrippa learned once he went out into a lost eternity.

In fact, Matthew 10:34-39 tells us that our Lord Jesus Christ was not too popular among Jewry. Sure, some people followed Him, but most avoided Him; this caused divisions among families (Matthew 10:32-39). Go to John 6:66 KJV: “From that time many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him.” Jesus Christ was certainly not preaching some “feel-good gospel” like so many are doing today, was He? Then, why should we be promoting a compromised Christian lifestyle? It makes no sense, beloved.

These past several weeks now, we have been discussing the grace life laid out in the Pauline epistles. As the Bible says, “Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution” (2 Timothy 3:12 KJV). “Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ” (2 Timothy 2:2 KJV). The key to coping with being ostracized and rejected by friends and family is to remember that the Lord Jesus Christ, and all the saints before us, suffered persecution. As long as you (in the flesh, in the sinful nature) live like the rest of the world, no one bothers you. But when God’s Word works inside you, it brings about godly communication, a godly lifestyle. The world will not want much to do with you—seeing Christ living in you is just like them opening a Bible and reading, and they do not want that!

People love the Christian name, but they dare not want the accompanying persecution and criticism. Paul never says we will have easy lives in Christ. We are never promised material riches and carefree lifestyles. We will experience suffering as long as we live in this world cursed with death and sin. But, like we discussed in part II, God has equipped us to be His ambassadors. He will give us the strength to endure, even when the world will try to trip us up and mock us. “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me” (Philippians 4:11-13).

What a joy to suffer as a Christian (1 Peter 4:14-16)! “So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me” (Hebrews 13:6 KJV). “…And in nothing terrified by your adversaries [enemies]: which is to them an evident token of perdition, but to you of salvation, and that of God” (Philippians 1:28 KJV).

Are you willing to be called “foolish” and “crazy” for following the Lord Jesus Christ? What if you had to be tortured for Him, or even die for Him? Would you rather serve man, or serve the Lord? Will you fear what man can do to you? Are you ready to lose friends and family members because you love the Lord? If you do not have assurance of salvation today, are you willing to go against the grain by getting saved? If you are saved today, are you willing to let the Lord Jesus Christ live the grace life in you, or will you fulfill the lusts of the flesh, living a life of carnality and worldliness?

The choice, friend, is yours! As for me, I will continue going against the grain…. =D

Next weekend, we conclude the “Reflection” series with “The Lights of Glory.”

Reflection V: The Lights of Glory
by Shawn Brasseaux

[12 September 2009]

In the final installment of the “Reflection” series, we deal with the topic of heaven. At my church, we sing the hymn “Because He Lives,” and this is the last verse: “And then one day, I’ll cross the river, / I’ll fight life’s final war with pain; / And then, as death gives way to vict’ry, / I’ll see the lights of glory and I’ll know He lives!”

So, let us turn to the Scriptures, and start reading in 1 Corinthians chapter 15 KJV:

“51 Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,
52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.
53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.”

This is what we call “the rapture of the Church the Body of Christ” (cf. 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18). As soon as this Dispensation of Grace is concluded, and the Body of Christ is removed from earth, the Old Testament prophetic timeline will once again continue, and the nation Israel returns to the forefront in God’s dealings with man. We Christians believers will then be off to take our place in the heavenly places serving with Christ Jesus. Ephesians 2:6,7 KJV: “And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus: that in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.” By the way, the rapture will take place in the smallest divisible amount of time: scientists have stated that the smallest divisible amount of time is 0.000000000000000000000000000000000000000000033 second! Wow!

But, what is our inheritance as Christians and members of the Church the Body of Christ? Read Ephesians 1:3-12 KJV:

“3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ:
4 According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love:
5 Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will,
6 To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved.
7 In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;
8 Wherein he hath abounded toward us in all wisdom and prudence;
9 Having made known unto us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure which he hath purposed in himself:
10 That in the dispensation of the fulness of times he might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven, and which are on earth; even in him:
11 In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will:
12 That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ.

It is there in glory that we will see things beyond human comprehension. What is waiting out in the eternity for the Christian believer is something so awesome, so glorious, and so unfathomable!! The Bible says very little about our eternal abode as believers in Christ, but we do know that it is an inheritance that can never be lost or stolen. We can rest in God’s grace and take it by faith that no matter what happens to us, this inheritance is ours forever. The indwelling Holy Spirit is our “earnest”—the guarantee and down payment—of the eternal inheritance that we have in Christ. The Bible says in Romans chapter 8:16,17 KJV: “The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: and if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.”

We know that we will be in the Lord’s presence, and the Lord will resurrect and restore our current physical bodies into everlasting, glorified bodies like His glorious body (Philippians 3:20,21). Post-resurrection, the Lord was in a physical body that could teleport (instantly move from one location to another). He could go through walls and locked doors. He ate fish, bread, and honeycomb, He spoke, but His face looked the same. Likewise, we will retain our unique identities in eternity: we will recognize other believers, even those whom we have never met, those saints who lived thousands of years ago! Greatest of all, we shall stand face-to-face with the Lord Jesus Christ, to be rewarded at the Bema (Judgment Seat) of Christ.

* * *

In closing the “Reflection” series, we remember the following. We do not see the Lights of Glory right now; we live in a cruel, godless world. We are stuck in this nasty world system and living in these vile physical bodies that are prone to disease and death. But remember, if we have trusted exclusively in the Lord Jesus Christ for salvation, we have one glorious eternity awaiting us. The Apostle Paul was forbidden to write about the magnificent things he saw in Glory, when he was supernaturally transported into God’s heaven (2 Corinthians 12:1-9).

The Lord has left us here to serve in the Christian ambassadorship. This foreign territory we know as “earth” is our mission field. We cannot be intimidated into silence by denominationalists, liberals, modernists, and atheists. We cannot compromise or water-down the AUTHORITY OF GOD’S PRESERVED WORD (the King James Bible), though it will cost us our popularity with man. We cannot live a life of carnality, or a life pleasing the old devil. God is here with us in the presence of His indwelling Holy Spirit. In the Pauline epistles (Romans through Philemon), the Lord has revealed His will for us in the Dispensation of Grace. In Christ, we have been blessed with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places.

Serve the Lord while there is still time, while you have the capacity to do so. Refuse to sit back as our world slips farther away from God’s truth and embraces false teaching. Continue to labor “to make all men see….” Get into the King James Scriptures and study them. Learn solid dispensational doctrine, and tell others of the wonderful news. They can be saved by grace through faith in Christ alone, and they can be a reflection of the heavenly places, too!

“As Christians, the homeland we reflect here on earth will one day be the homeland we behold in heaven.”

Dark Clouds Are Hovering Over America (by Nolan Guilbeau)

August 12, 2009

by Nolan Guilbeau Published in The (Opelousas, Louisiana) Daily World
℅ Shawn Brasseaux

America, be reminded, enemy collaborators from within who threaten our way of governing and life in society continue to progress with goals to destroy this great nation. The disaster Americans face has long been cast, to transform a free society and republican form of government to one of godless communism. This isn’t America’s sole enemy! Why are so many citizens naïve to these “threats?” Many warnings were issued decades ago of this impending danger, the intent to subvert this nation. In the late 1950s America received on its soil a visitor peaking with venomous audacity, brazen statements concerning America’s future. It was unprecedented, insulting to all patriotic Americans then and now.

Nikita Krushchev, Soviet Communist boss, stated, “I can prophesy that your grandchildren in America will live under socialism. And please do not be afraid of that. Your grandchildren will not understand how their grandparents did not understand the progressive nature of a socialist society.

Again in 1959, this arrogant man’s message was blood chilling: “We cannot expect Americans to jump from capitalism to communism, but we can assist their elected leaders in giving small doses of socialism until they suddenly awake to find they have communism.” Pounding his fist, he shouted, “We will bury you!” Only by God’s grace will the American people escape the tyranny of this ungodly ideology. Dictatorship is defined as “the power based directly upon ‘force’ and unrestricted by any laws.”

Lenin defined this system of rule as “ruthless.” History bears this out. The symbolic Iron Curtain fell in Europe in 1989, supposedly signaling the “end” of communism. Concerning the future, Khrushchev clamored, “These who expect us to abandon communism will have to wait until a shrimp learns to whistle.”

American values are being undermined while many sworn to uphold the same have deserted their loyalty oaths of defending our values and Constitution. Unfortunately, the younger generation has not been taught of these ongoing perils facing our nation. Mainstream media, an integral part of society, repeatedly fails, like government, to report activities warning of these evils. Why so?

“Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord” (Psalm 33:12).

Don’t You Believe It!: Roundtrips to Heaven and Hell

August 11, 2009

by Shawn Brasseaux

Recently, while browsing an aisle filled with “inspirational” literature, I came across two books. Now, the casual reader will fall into this sort of trap, but the key here is to Biblically analyze the situation. Here you have two books, both of which have convincing titles. They both “have a form of godliness,” as 2 Timothy 3:5 says, but when they are compared with the Bible, these two books clearly “deny the powerful thereof” by contradicting the Bible.

What am I talking about? The first book is “90 Minutes in Heaven,” written by Don Piper in 2004. In 2006, Bill Wiese published “23 Minutes in Hell.” Is either of these books reliable? Thankfully, I have not wasted my time reading either book because all I had to do was spend a few minutes reading both back covers; it was no surprise to find out that both of them are nonsense and should be completely avoided!

Weise is a professing Christian who claims that, in 1998, he was transported to hell—whether bodily or in a vision, he is not sure. He tries to bolster this claim with Scripture by quoting 2 Corinthians 12:2,3. Nonetheless, Weise’s story is nonsense. Why would God allow a “Christian” to see hell? If a “Christian” goes to hell, then he was never a Christian! And why do we need someone to tell us what hell is like when God’s Word gives us a description of hell in Mark 9:42-50, Luke 16:19-31, 2 Thessalonians 1:7-9, and Revelation 14:10,11? The Bible says more about hell than it does about heaven anyway.

The other author, Piper, is a Baptist minister who said that after a 1989 automobile accident, he died and came back to life several times. Like Weise’s, this is another odd, unbelievable story because Piper claims he was able to see heaven for 90 minutes, and God sent him back to earth so he could tell us what he saw. Immediately, a red flag goes up—flash back to 2 Corinthians 12:4. When the Apostle Paul was caught up into the third heaven, God forbade him to share his experience of heaven. God told Paul not to say a word about what he experienced in heaven. Obviously, Piper’s statements are untrustworthy because it contradicts God’s Word. By the way, oddly enough, Piper said he never saw Jesus Christ in heaven. How can you go to heaven and not see Jesus Christ?!

Whatever these two men saw, I cannot say exactly. It was some type of emotional upheaval, or a hallucination, but it was not related to God. The Bible tells us that everything that God has to say to us is in God’s completed written text (the Bible). In 2 Timothy 3:16,17 KJV we read: “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: that the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.” People today who claimed to have visions or extra-biblical revelations are claiming that God’s Word is not complete. This is dangerous because they are placing the authority on something subjective, something that varies from person to person, interpretation of experiences that some may have and other people do not have. The authority should rest on God’s Word alone, the written Bible, something that is objective (it does not vary from person to person, it stays the same). These experiences cause us to lose focus of God’s written Word, and that is dangerous because if we are not following God’s written Word, we are entering into the realm of satanic deception (see 1 Timothy 4:1).

The Bible warns us: “Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ” (Colossians 2:8). These types of books are trying to draw us away from Christ and into the realm of satanic influence (angelic appearances, visions, et cetera—that is the occult, friend, and it is certainly not of God). Colossians 2:18 says: “Let no man beguile you of your reward in a voluntary humility and worshipping of angels, intruding into those things which he hath NOT seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind,” Whatever these people are “seeing,” the Bible says they have NOT seen it. They are not seeing heaven; they are seeing something Satan is using to draw them away from the truth, and Satan is trying to use that information to deceive the masses who read those books. Remember, Satan can transform himself into an angel of light (2 Corinthians 11:13-15) and angels would appear to us only to preach false information to us and deceive us (Galatians 1:8).

CONCLUSION

What I can say is that I would avoid this type of literature. It may make for good “storytelling,” but Scripture does not substantiate either of these claims. This literature is spiritually dangerous. Anyone who claims to have special revelations from God should not be trusted. Everything that God has to say to you is in the Bible, the King James Bible. You do not need dreams, visions, out-of-body experiences, and angelic appearances to hear from God. Piper and Weise are leading people astray, whether deliberately or unintentionally is beside the point. People will write anything just to make money… pitiful.

The Debate in Christendom: The Bible Versions

August 9, 2009

by Shawn Brasseaux
2012 Update

Within Christendom, there are numerous heated debates. Religion and God’s Word are always at odds with one another; ultimately, the good news is that “the word of our Lord endureth forever!” In this study, we are going to deal with one of the most important matters in all of Christianity: the Bible versions debate. My purpose is to expose the major theological errors contained in the modern English translations such as the New King James Version, the New American Standard Version, and the New International Version.

Ever since the Bible was first penned in a human language (Hebrew) over 3,500 years ago, Satan’s ministers have been hard at work counterfeiting God’s Word. In 2 Thessalonians 2:2, we even read of false “bibles”—that was 2,000 years ago! Even though the canon of the Scriptures was closed in the first century A.D., we still have people adding to God’s Word, taking from it, watering it down, and even ignoring it completely. If the devil can destroy God’s Word, he wins! If he can make you doubt God’s Word, you will be vulnerable to the devil’s lies. This is why Satan viciously attacks the purity of the Bible.

The devil is the master counterfeiter. Consequently, we have all sorts of false teaching today, and a large part of it is in the form of “Bibles.” There are a lot of perverted “Bible” versions and paraphrases of the Bible on the market today—over 100 complete translations, and 200 partial translations! These modern Bible versions do contain some truth, but they also have contradictions and grave historical and theological errors. The Roman Catholic Church attempted to insert over one dozen false books (the apocrypha) into the Bible. The Jehovah’s Witnesses have their own corrupt version called the “New World Translation.” The Book of Mormon is supposedly “another testament of Jesus Christ” (which is just as much of the devil as the rest of the modern versions). Again, Satan seeks to corrupt or destroy the Bible.

As long as Satan can keep the masses blinded, he can keep them in his chains of spiritual darkness. While Satan cannot destroy God’s Word, he has been allowed to produce counterfeit, damnable copies of God’s Word. Utilizing these perverted versions, the devil has misguided so many unsuspecting people; his main goal is to keep them blinded to the Gospel of Grace as 2 Corinthians 4:3,4 says, but he wants them using the wrong Bible too. In 2 Corinthians 11:3,4, the Apostle Paul referred to Satan’s counterfeits: “another Jesus, another spirit, another gospel;” what about “another Bible?” Sure!

After consulting seven of the modern English translations of the Bible, it is evident to me that the devil is still on his quest to counterfeit and dilute the Word of God. God has looked after the Bible, and while there are still genuine copies of God’s Word, these newer translations are another story, literally.

So, in this special Bible study, we deal with seven of these corrupt modern English “Bibles” that are quite popular today: The Message (MSG), New International Version (NIV), New American Standard (NASV/NASB), New Living Translation (NLT), New Century Version (NCV), New King James Version (NKJV), and New World Translation (NWT). What a strange coincidence: all but one of these Bibles has the word “new” in its title! So, what is “new” in these versions? Basically, nothing is new but the title—it is the same old corrupt underlying Greek text from apostates Westcott and Hort of 1881!

Before we begin this in-depth study on the Bible versions, I want to give you two examples of Bible corruption in order to catch your attention. In Luke 23:42, “Lord” is removed from many of these modern versions—this is a blatant denial of Jesus Christ’s deity! That is just one of dozens of places where modern Bibles omit “Lord.”

Acts 8:37, the Ethiopian eunuch’s profession of faith, is either completely removed or placed in a footnote in these modern English Bibles. “And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.” Completely omitted from modern Bibles. Very few readers notice the numbering system jumps from 36 to 38!

The common reader will overlook these very subtle changes, but if you compare these modern versions with the Authorized Version 1611 King James Bible, you begin to see these modern versions for the Alexandrian garbage they are! Despite the names, it is old Alexandrian corruption and nothing new at all.

Are these minor doctrinal errors in the NIV, NASB, NKJV, ESV, NRSV, and so on? You tell me:

  • the deity of Jesus Christ is denied,
  • references to eternal hellfire are removed,
  • the apostleships of Peter and Paul are undermined and/or questioned,
  • denial of Old Testament prophecy fulfilled in the New Testament,
  • two large 12-verse passages are questioned,
  • denial of the virgin birth of Christ,
  • some verses pertaining to salvation are highly distorted, and
  • omission of important Bible terms such as “repent,” “heaven,” “Son,” “Jesus,” “Lord,” “hell,” “Christ,” “my Father,” and “blood.”

The Gospel of Grace in the Modern Bible Versions

As you can see, countless fundamental beliefs of Bible-believing Christians have been compromised, watered down, or completely eliminated in these modern English Bibles. What a surprise to find the Gospel of Grace remains relatively intact in these modern versions (Romans 10:9-13 and 1 Corinthians 15:1-4). However, this is just another example of the devil’s craftiness. If he could make you believe these modern translations are reliable by accurately translating the Gospel of Grace, you would never suspect any gross error in these modern versions—would you? The devil will never come at you with 100 percent lie—he will always provide some truth to entice you, to “reel you in.” Satan may have 90 percent truth, but you have to be concerned with the 10 percent error that is less obvious, friends and brethren!

God has hovered over the Gospel so it has not been adulterated in these modern Bibles, too. People can still be saved by reading the Gospel of Grace found in these newer versions, but that still does not erase the fact that most—if not all—newer translations have MAJOR doctrinal errors (we briefly mentioned them earlier, but they will be discussed later in detail). With the exception of The Message, 1 Corinthians 15:1-4 and Romans 10:9-13 in all the other versions have the basic highlights of the Gospel: Jesus Christ died for our sins, He was buried, and He was raised from the dead. However, The Message’s rendition of Romans 10:9-13 sounds highly distorted, I find.

Where Was it Written?

Mark 1:2 KJB says, “As it is written in the prophets, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee.” Modern Bibles (NIV, NASB, NRSV, ESV, et cetera) read, “as it is written in Isaiah the prophet….” Any reference Bible will tell you that this is a quote from Malachi 3:1. Verse 3 is from Isaiah (40:3). Modern Bibles have a mistake in them—plain and simple.

Whose Purification?

Was the Lord Jesus Christ the perfect sacrifice? Yes, the Bible confirms the Lord Jesus Christ was sinless so He could become our propitiation, our substitute (2 Corinthians 5:21; Hebrews 4:15). However, the NASB, the NLT, the NIV, and other modern versions degrade and deny this critical doctrine clearly demonstrated and confirmed in the Scriptures.

Find Luke 2:22 in the New American Standard: “And when the days for their purification according to the law of Moses were completed, they brought Him up to Jerusalem to present Him to the Lord.” The NIV and NLT also contain the words “their purification.” In the King James text, Luke 2:22 uses the word “her,” not “their.” While it may seem like modern translators made an honest mistake, let us examine this matter more closely. Modern Bibles actually make Christ a sinner with this subtle change!

According to Leviticus 12:6-8 in the NIV, the NASB, and the KJB, the Law of Moses demanded that the woman undergo purification. Verse 6 says her purification.” The Law of Moses said nothing about the male child’s purification in this verse. So, why does the NASB and NIV use the pronoun “their” in Luke 2:22, when according to Leviticus chapter 12, “her” is the proper pronoun? When a translation changes “her” to “their” in Luke 2:22, it claims that Jesus Christ was not sinless! This is not an honest mistake—this is a vicious assault on the doctrine of Christ being “without spot” (Hebrews 9:14). This is not something to be taken lightly!

Who Rebelled?

Hebrews 3:16 KJB says: “For some, when they had heard, did provoke: howbeit not all that came out of Egypt by Moses.” Modern bibles read, “Who were they who heard and rebelled? were they not all those Moses led out of Egypt? Modern Bibles are wrong!!! Caleb and Joshua did not rebel (Numbers 13:30; Numbers 14:6-12,23,24)—they entered the Promised Land. Yet, modern Bibles claim that every Jew rebelled against the LORD, which is historically wrong. The KJB is right! (Notice the KJB’s declarative statement has been transformed into an interrogative statement in modern Bibles.)

Was Jesus Christ God?

Phillippians 2:6 KJB says: “Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:” Modern Bibles such as NIV read, “Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage.” Obviously the NIV translators have perverted the verse (NIV2010 quoted here; NIV1984 had “Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped,”). Notice the NIV2010 and NIV1984 do not even agree with each other, let alone agree with KJB!

Resemblances to The New World Translation

Most Christians are aware of the fact that Jehovah’s Witnesses are anything but Christians. I know of Christians who know Jehovah’s Witness teaching is absolutely false, yet these same people use Bible translations that have eerily similarities to Jehovah’s Witness teaching and the Jehovah’s Witness “bible!” I find it pitiful that those who hate the New World Translation for its demeaning of Christ will find nothing wrong with the NIV, the NASB, or the NKJV when these books are guilty of teaching the same thing! If you dislike the NWT and the Jehovah’s Witness doctrine, why use the NIV or the NASB? I am going to give you three examples that are similar amongst the NIV, the NKJV, the NASB, and the NWT.

According to Jehovah’s Witness teaching, Jesus Christ was a created being, and therefore not equal to God. Consequently, their translation of the Bible—the New World Translation—dilutes the verses that support Jesus Christ as being God. For instance, look at John 1:1 in the King James Bible: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” Now, look at the New World Translation (NWT): “In [the] beginning the Word was, and the Word was with God, and the Word was a god.” Did you catch the subtle change? According to the NWT, Jesus Christ was “a god,” not THE ONE AND ONLY GOD like the King James Bible says! Notice a lower-case “god” in the NWT.

Our first example is how the NWT denies Christ’s deity. John 1:18 KJB says that Christ is “the only begotten Son.” The NIV reads (John 1:18): “God the One and Only.” The NASB reads “the only begotten God.” This is similar to the New World Translation’s “the only-begotten god.” (Notice, again, the NWT uses a lower-case “god.”). Although the New King James Version uses “the only begotten Son,” its footnote gives credibility to some manuscripts that read “only begotten God.” See, the NKJV cannot be trusted either! These modern versions support the false idea that God was created and that Jesus Christ was not God. Blasphemy!

Look at our second example. In the King James Bible, 1 Timothy 3:16 is one of the most convincing verses to support the fact that Jesus Christ is God: God was manifest in the flesh….” The NIV and the NASB both replace “God” with “He.” The NKJV contains the word “God,” yet the footnote encourages the use of “Who” rather than “God!” Can you guess how 1 Timothy 3:16 reads in the New World Translation, the Jehovah’s Witness “bible?” The same way the NIV and NASB do—the New World Translation uses “he” rather than “God!”

Look at our third example. Another doctrine the Jehovah’s Witnesses dislike is the doctrine of the Trinity, the Godhead existing in three Persons. So, they remove most of 1 John 5:7. In the King James Bible, 1 John 5:7 says: “For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.” The NIV and the NASB remove “the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost.” The NKJV, again, casts doubt on these words using a footnote. Notice, the NIV, the NASB, and the NKJV support Jehovah’s Witness doctrine a third time! This is just of many examples.

Why do these modern Bible versions (NIV, NASB, etc.) have similarities to the New World Translation, you ask? The NWT relies on the corrupt Westcott and Hort Greek text, and this Greek text is nearly the same as the corrupt Nestle-Aland Greek text being used by the NIV and the NASB! After all, Nestle and Aland based their Greek text on Westcott and Hort’s 1881 Greek New Testament text.

Modern English Bible Versions Ignore Paul’s Gentile Apostleship and the Revelation of the Mystery

Many people have the wrong idea that Paul and Peter preached the same Gospel, and the modern English Bibles contribute to this confusion. Christ and the twelve apostles in His earthly ministry preached the Gospel of the Kingdom to Israel, and it even continued into the early part of the Book of Acts (Matthew 9:35; Acts 8:35-37). The Bible is very clear that the Lord revealed only to the Apostle Paul “the Gospel of the Grace of God,” a year after the cross of Christ (Acts 20:24; Romans 16:25-26; Galatians 1:11-12; Galatians 2:5-10; Ephesians 3:1-9).

Read Romans 2:16 KJB: “In the day when God shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ according to my gospel.” The NASB, NKJV, and New Century alter Romans 2:16 using transposition (rearrange the wording). The NLT totally omits the word “Gospel” in Romans 2:16. Romans 2:16 NIV reads: “This will take place on the day when God will judge men’s secrets through Jesus Christ, as my gospel declares.” The truth is that people will be judged ACCORDING TO Paul’s Gospel. Paul’s Gospel does not merely suggest you will be judged, but God will use Paul’s Gospel as the criteria of whether or not you are saved!

Romans 11:13, as read in the King James Bible, says that Paul “is the apostle of the Gentiles.” The NASB, the New Century, the NKJV, and the NIV all use the indefinite article “an” instead of the definite article “the.” This is certainly a major error.

Acts 9:15, Romans 15:16, and Ephesians 3:1-9 tell us that Paul was sent to minister to the Gentiles: why has the definite article “the” been replaced with the indefinite article “an?” Galatians 2:9,10 is evidence that the 12 apostles ministered only to Jews, whereas Paul and Barnabas ministered to the Gentiles. By using the word “an” and not the original word “the,” these modern versions make no clear distinction between Paul’s ministry to Gentiles and the twelve apostles’ ministry to Jews. Do you still think “modern versions are easier to read?”

The King James Bible only uses the term “dispensation” four times (1 Corinthians 9:17; Ephesians 1:10; Ephesians 3:2; Colossians 1:25). Modern Bibles—including the NKJV—remove or water down this term (substituted for “administration,” “commission,” “stewardship,” et cetera). You cannot use a modern Bible to say “dispensational Bible study.”

“Rightly Dividing the Word of Truth”

This portion of our article deals with the most important verse regarding Bible study. Studying the Bible is what God wants, but He also wants us to “rightly divide,” separating what was written to Jews under the Law (the entire Old Testament, the Four Gospels, and Hebrews through Revelation) and what was written to Gentiles under Grace (Paul’s epistles of Romans through Philemon). We are not under Law; we are under Grace (Romans 6:14,15). We are the Church the Body of Christ, not the nation Israel. The book of Acts is the “transition book,” documenting God’s dealings with Israel have shifted to Him dealing with Gentiles.

“Rightly dividing” the Bible is the only way to make sense of the Bible because Jews were told one thing, and God tells us Gentiles something entirely different (see Romans 15:4). The King James Bible reads in 2 Timothy 2:15: Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman who needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”

Read 2 Timothy 2:15 as it is found in modern translations, and you will notice that none of these mention the word “study” [study the Bible]. Some copies of the New King James Version use “rightly dividing,” and other NKJV use “correctly handling.” It is obvious that this verse has been tampered with in the following modern Bible versions:

  • The Message (2 Timothy 2:15 MSG): Concentrate on doing your best for God… lay out the truth, plain and simple.”
  • New Century Version (2 Timothy 2:15 NCV): Make every effort to give yourself to God… use the true teaching in the right way.”
  • New International Version (2 Timothy 2:15 NIV): Do your best to present yourself to God… correctly handle the word of truth.”
  • New American Standard Bible (2 Timothy 2:15 NASB): Be diligent to present yourself approved to God… accurately handling the word of truth.”
  • New Revised Standard Version (2 Timothy 2:15 NRSV): Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved by him… rightly explaining the word of truth.”
  • English Standard Version (2 Timothy 2:15 ESV): Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved… rightly handling the word of truth.”
  • Contemporary English Version (2 Timothy 2:15 CEV): Do your best to win God’s approval… teach only the true message.”
  • New Living Translation (2 Timothy 2:15 NLT): Work hard so you can present yourself to God… who correctly explains the word of truth.”
  • New King James Version (2 Timothy 2:15 NKJV): Be diligent to present yourself approved to God… rightly dividing the word of truth.”
  • New World Translation (2 Timothy 2:15 NWT) – JEHOVAH’S WITNESS “BIBLE”: Do your utmost to present yourself approved to God… handling the word of the truth aright.”

Shame, shame, shame! They have butchered the only Bible verse that explains how we should study and interpret the Bible. No wonder people know very little, if anything, of dispensational Bible study—they never read “rightly dividing” in their modern Bible versions! They never are instructed to “study” the Bible either.

Other Major Errors in the Modern English Bibles

There are many, MANY more errors than space permits me to cite, so I would encourage you to find and read “Theological Errors in the Versions—The King James Bible’s Superiority in Theology,” by Dr. D.A. Waite of THE BIBLE FOR TODAY.

Major Theological Errors in the New American Standard Version (NASV)

  • The NASB completely omits “through [Christ’s] blood” in Colossians 1:14.
  • “Every word of God” is completely eliminated from Luke 4:4 in the NASB. Why was it left intact in Matthew 4:4? Who else but the devil would remove this important part of the verse? (Source: Waite).
  • In 2 Peter 3:2, the phrase “us apostles” in the KJB has been changed to “your apostles” in the NASB. By making this change, Peter’s apostleship is questioned, and perhaps we could even go so far as to say this was a deliberate attempt to deny Peter’s apostleship entirely. (Source: Waite).
  • Mark 16:9-20 and John 7:53—8:11 in the NASB are bracketed off, separated from the Bible text, therefore casting doubt as to whether or not they are truly God-breathed Scripture. Yet the passage found in Mark is corroborated by various other portions of Scripture. (Source: Waite).
  • The reference to Sodom and Gomorrah in Mark 6:11 in the KJB is completely eliminated from the NASB. There is not even a marginal note even containing the portion of Scripture in the NASB! (Source: Waite).
  • John 6:69 in the KJB claims that Jesus Christ is “Christ, the Son of the living God.” Instead, you will find an inferior reading “the holy one of God” in the NASB. (Source: Waite).
  • “Eternal life” in the KJB in 1 Timothy 6:19 has been replaced in the NASB by a watered-down “life that truly is life,” “true life,” or “that which is life indeed.”
  • Ephesians 3:9 in the KJB clearly states that Jesus Christ is the Creator God of Genesis 1:1. However, the phrase “by Jesus Christ” is completely eliminated from the NASB; Jesus Christ (God the Son) is denied as being the Creator.
  • In 1 John 5:7-8, there is a denial of the Trinity (Triune Godhead) in the NASB.
  • Jesus Christ’s power over Satan is denied, with the KJB phrase in Luke 4:8 “Get thee behind me Satan” completely eliminated from the NASB.

Major Theological Errors in the New International Version (NIV)

  • The NIV removes “through [Christ’s] blood” from Colossians 1:14 and places it in the marginal notes.
  • “Every word of God” in Luke 4:4 is completely eliminated from the NIV. Why was it left intact in Matthew 4:4? Who else but the devil would remove this important part of the verse? (Source: Waite).
  • In 2 Peter 3:2, the phrase “us apostles” in the KJB has been changed to “your apostles” in the NIV. By making this change, Peter’s apostleship is questioned, and perhaps we could even go so far as to say this was a deliberate attempt to deny Peter’s apostleship entirely. (Source: Waite).
  • Mark 16:9-20 and John 7:53—8:11 in the NIV are bracketed off, separated from the Bible text, therefore casting doubt as to whether or not they are truly God-breathed Scripture. Yet the passage found in Mark is corroborated by various other portions of Scripture. (Source: Waite).
  • John 6:69 in the KJB claims that Jesus Christ is “Christ, the Son of the living God.” Instead, you will find the inferior reading “the holy one of God” in the NIV. (Source: Waite).
  • The reference to Sodom and Gomorrah in Mark 6:11 in the KJB is completely eliminated from the NIV. There is not even a marginal note even containing the portion of Scripture in the NIV! (Source: Waite).
  • “Eternal life” in the KJB in 1 Timothy 6:19 has been replaced in the NIV by a watered-down “life that truly is life,” “true life,” or “that which is life indeed.” “Eternal life” has been deleted and an inferior and useless phrase has been inserted.
  • Ephesians 3:9 in the KJB clearly states that Jesus Christ is the Creator God of Genesis 1:1. However, the phrase “by Jesus Christ” is completely eliminated from the NIV; Jesus Christ (God the Son) is denied as being the Creator.
  • Jesus Christ’s power over Satan is denied, with the KJB phrase in Luke 4:8, “Get thee behind me Satan” completely eliminated from the NIV.

Major Theological Errors in the New King James Version (NKJV)

  • The original 1611 King James text is supported by the Textus Receptus (the Greek Majority Text). The New King James Version, in contrast, ignores the Textus Receptus over 1200 times! Is the NKJV an updated King James Bible? Absolutely not!
  • The NKJV translators even admit that it was necessary to do more than replace obsolete words with contemporary English.
  • A.V. Publications (Gail Riplinger) released a pamphlet regarding the NKJV that reads:

“Why does the NKJV use harder words than the KJB? The derivative copyright law insists that: “To be copyrightable, a derivative work must be different enough from the original to be regarded as a ‘new work’ or must contain a substantial amount of new material. Making minor changes or additions of little substance to a preexisting work will not qualify the work as a new version for copyright purposes.” Therefore all new Bible versions must change those simple one or two syllable Anglo-Saxon words to complex Latinized words. Consequently the KJB reads at the 5th grade level and the NKJV reads at the 6th grade level. Because of this copyright law, there will never be an easier to read Bible than the KJB.”

  • The NKJV is not the KJB. The NKJV is a counterfeit version of the 1611 Authorized King James Bible. After reviewing the information found in the chart below, we see that the NKJV reads harder than the King James Bible. But, why is it that people complain about the “archaic” King James words, yet never comment on the more difficult words found in the NKJV?

Major Theological Errors in the New Living Translation (NLT)

  • The NLT removes “through [Christ’s] blood” from Colossians 1:14 and places it in the marginal notes.
  • In 2 Peter 3:2, the phrase “us apostles” in the KJB has been changed to “your apostles” in the NLT. By making this change, Peter’s apostleship is questioned, and perhaps we could even go so far as to say this was a deliberate attempt to deny Peter’s apostleship entirely. (Source: Waite).
  • John 6:69 in the KJB claims that Jesus Christ is “Christ, the Son of the living God.” Instead, you will find “the holy one of God” in the NLT. (Source: Waite).
  • “Eternal life” in the KJB in 1 Timothy 6:19 has been replaced in the NLT by a watered-down “life that truly is life,” “true life,” or “that which is life indeed.” “Eternal life” has been deleted and an inferior and useless phrase has been inserted.
  • In the NLT, there is a subtle denial of the Triune Godhead in 1 John 5:7-8.
  • Jesus Christ’s power over Satan is denied, with the KJB phrase in Luke 4:8 “Get thee behind me Satan” completely eliminated from the NLT.

Major Theological Errors in the The Message (MSG)

  • “The Message” is nothing more than a paraphrased Bible text. Eugene Peterson began writing it in 1993, and it was completed in 2002. In an interview, Peterson made a stunning admission: “I just typed out a page the way I thought it would have sounded to the Galatians.” What Mr. Peterson has admitted is that he not only translated the Bible for you, he has also graciously interpreted the Bible for you too! He played the role of the translator AND the teacher! Thus, the possibility of error is twice as great.
  • The reference to Sodom and Gomorrah in Mark 6:11 in the KJB is completely eliminated from the Message. There is not even a marginal note even containing the portion of Scripture!
  • The Message is a modern-language paraphrase of the Bible—a blatant mockery of God’s Word. The Message refers to Jesus as “Master Jesus,” instead of “Lord Jesus.” How blasphemous, because Lord—not “Master”—makes the connection between Jesus Christ and the LORD God of the Old Testament! Colossians 1:17-20 in The Message reads (one of the many wordy, difficult passages in this version). “Resurrection parade?” Christ is “spacious and roomy?” “Broken and dislocated pieces of the universe?” What in the world is going on with the Message?

“And when it comes to the church, he [Christ] organizes and holds it together, like a head does a body. He was supreme in the beginning and—leading the resurrection parade—he is supreme in the end. From beginning to end he’s there, towering far above everything, everyone. So spacious is he, so roomy, that everything of God finds its proper place in him without crowding. Not only that, but all the broken and dislocated pieces of the universe—people and things, animals and atoms—get properly fixed and fit together in vibrant harmonies, all because of his death, his blood that poured down from the cross.” (Colossians 1:17-20 MSG).

Now here is Colossians 1:17-20 in the King James Version:

“And he [Christ] is before all things, and by him all things consist. And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence. For it pleased the Father that in him should all fulness dwell; And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven.”

Major Theological Errors in the New Century Version (NCV)

  • “Eternal life” in the KJB in 1 Timothy 6:19 has been replaced by a watered-down “life that truly is life,” “true life,” or “that which is life indeed.” “Eternal life” has been deleted and an inferior and useless phrase has been inserted.
  • The New Century Version has “the holy one from God” instead of “the Son of the living God” in John 6:69.
  • Ephesians 3:9 in the KJB clearly states that Jesus Christ is the Creator God of Genesis 1:1. However, the phrase “by Jesus Christ” is completely eliminated from the New Century Version; Jesus Christ (God the Son) is denied as being the Creator.
  • In the NCV, there is a subtle denial of the Triune Godhead in 1 John 5:7-8.
  • Jesus Christ’s power over Satan is denied, with the KJB phrase in Luke 4:8 “Get thee behind me Satan” completely eliminated from the New Century Version.

Conclusion: There is More Where That Came From!

So, as you can see, there are major theological errors in the modern Bibles. Many professing Christians have abandoned the “old” King James Bible to embrace more “contemporary”—yet theologically inferior—versions. They abandoned the sound King James for a watered-down, easy-to-read and corrupt modern “bible.”

How pitiful. The Revised Standard Version (RSV), The New Revised Standard Version (NRSV), Today’s English Version (TEV), and the American Standard Version (ASV) all contain the same errors—and definitely more—as those mentioned in this article. The New Berkley, one additional Bible version I did not consult, contains many of the same errors as found in these other newer versions (denial of Christ’s power over the devil in Luke 4:8; denial of the Trinity in 1 John 5:7-8; omission of “eternal life” in 1 Timothy 6:19). (Source: Waite)

The Lord gives us a warning regarding people twisting/wresting/corrupting the Scriptures, altering the Bible in an attempt to substantiate their own erroneous and heretical beliefs (2 Peter 3:15-17). Paul wrote “Many corrupt the word of God” (2 Corinthians 2:17). If we take a look at the basis of these modern versions (the corrupt text from Alexandria), it is quite obvious that the devil’s nature has never changed. The King James Bible, and its underlying Antiochian text, is reliable. Because the modern versions have a separate Greek source than that of the King James text, they read differently from the King James Bible—it is more than a difference of interpreting the same text. Satan is ruthless, doing everything he can to pollute the Bible, and upon reading the history of the Bible and its translation, I am aghast. The common Christian has not been taught just how serious this matter is.

The devil has been hard at work these past couple millennia, ever since the canon of Scripture were closed. The Bible versions debate is a serious matter, so what should we be doing? If you are a Christian who is currently using a contemporary English Bible version, such as one of those listed here, please REFRAIN from using them. Put them away, and use the Authorized Version King James Bible, God’s infallible and inerrant Word to you as an English-speaking person!

If you are interested in comparing these newer translations with the reliable King James Bible (if you use one of the new Bibles listed above, I strongly recommend that you see for yourself), please visit www.biblegateway.com. There, you can find the King James text as well as copies of these new translations (with the exception of the New World Translation). Please do not waste your money buying these trashy perversions of the Bible. Pass the word around… the Authorized Version 1611 King James Bible is theologically superior to these newer English translations. It alone is God’s preserved Word and words in English. Period!

Agility

July 31, 2009

by Shawn Brasseaux

The other day, my mom and I visited some of her Christian friends that she has known for decades. The last time I saw these three women was many years ago, when I was just a small boy. (By the way, one of these women led my parents to the Lord nearly 30 years ago). At that time, we all attended the same local church. As you might recall from previous articles, I mentioned there was a huge church split, and many of the congregants were hurt by it. My family was also hurt, as was these ladies’ families, so that made it awkward to visit them all those years. Still, all these years later, it is sad because these dear friends and saints are growing elderly, closer to be with the Lord.

All three of these Christians were uplifted by our visit—mom and I were also thrilled to see them and fellowship with them. All three sisters in Christ have their own struggles. One of these ladies has to endure being an outcast of her self-righteous family. The second Christian sister is very frail and handicapped and must use a walker to get around. Sadly, the last Christian woman has a son whose dishonorable lifestyle is causing her much heartache. How it is very difficult to see these Christian brethren in such troubling circumstances. All we can do is pray for them, but how we wish we could do more. Certainly, the Lord’s heart is deeply moved to see them suffering, but “His grace is sufficient for us” (2 Corinthians 12:9,10). I kept telling these dear saints that God’s grace is sufficient.

The Lord Jesus Christ never grew to be an old man. He died at age 33! However, the Lord knows how our elderly world feels. We grow old and die because of the curse (Romans 8:18-23; 2 Corinthians 4:16-18). Recently, I was discussing with an older Christian in the Lord, how death is working in us from the day we are born. The instant a child is conceived in the womb, he or she already has death in his or her “members.” King David wrote in Psalm 51:5 KJV: “Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me.”

The Apostle Paul wrote to the Corinthians believers: “For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day” (2 Corinthians 4:16 KJV). Our “outward man” is dying as we speak; our bodies are gradually growing older. It sounds depressing, but take another look at the last portion of the verse. Remember the “inner man” that we discussed some months back, and how God is more concerned with our inner man (soul and spirit) than our outer man (physical body)? According to Romans 8:18-25, 1 Corinthians 15:51-55, Ephesians 4:30, and Philippians 3:20,21, God will one day resurrect and redeem these corrupted physical bodies, and give us Christians new glorified bodies that will last forever! Right now, God wants to deal with those parts of us that He has already redeemed—our soul and spirit, our inner man. These physical bodies are not meant to last forever; our spiritual bodies are!

Look at 2 Corinthians 5:1 KJV: “For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.” Our old temporary physical body (the “tabernacle”) will die if the Lord tarries, but we as believers in Jesus Christ we will have eternal resurrected body one day!

Our concern now is to serve the Lord Jesus Christ in this present moment. The dear souls who need to hear the Gospel of Grace will not be here forever, and we will not be here forever either. Thus, the Bible says that we need to “redeem the time” (Ephesians 5:15-17; Colossians 4:5). We need to buy up the time for God’s glory… while we still have time to buy up the time!

This is why we need to take advantage of the strength and agility that we have now as able-bodied people. Some Christians wait until they are well into their years to do anything—instead they become unable to move due to old age. They cannot get out of the house and witness. They are confined to nursing homes; some of them, sadly, develop Alzheimer’s disease and cannot remember the Scriptures anymore. Some older Christians seem to give up at the end, with the opinion that “I am too old for the Lord to use!” Nope, beloved, the Lord can still work mightily in us, whether we are 10 years old or 110 years old.

My purpose is not to discourage you with this information. If you are a Christian young man or woman, or any able-bodied Christian for that matter, wake up! Get involved with the Lord’s work while you still have time and while you have all that energy! Do not wait until your latter years to decide to serve the Lord, because you will regret that (older Christians have told me that is exactly how they feel). While your mind is still quick and able to process information quickly, you need to learn as much sound Bible doctrine as you can. That way, you can have a lot of Bible information when someone asks for it.

Study God’s Word, the King James Bible, rightly divided, and be willing to share God’s Word with those with whom you come into contact. You do not necessarily have to preach on street corners—just take advantage of opportunities to witness during everyday living. Learn as much Scripture as you can, so you can be ready when the person approached you with a question. Take advantage of your agility!

Is the Lake of Fire Literally Everlasting?

July 30, 2009

by Shawn Brasseaux

Do lost souls literally spend eternity in torments, or is this simply something Christians like to say to scare people into getting saved? Are people really going to suffer in hellfire forever and ever?

Many people today—even a large number of “evangelicals”—adhere to the idea of “annihilationism,” the belief that God completely destroys the bodies and souls of the lost people in hell, that these lost people cease to exist forever, that they do not suffer forever and ever. “Annihilationism” is unscriptural—in fact, it is heresy. The Bible is adamant that the bodies and souls of lost people will spend a literal eternity in the literal lake of fire and brimstone (sulfur). Their souls and bodies will never be consumed in hell. We turn to the Holy Scriptures because God’s Word—not a theological system—is the final authority.

Matthew 10:28 KJV says, “And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.” Proponents of “annihilationism” twist (deliberately distort and misquote) this verse in a desperate attempt to prove that God annihilates both body and soul in hell. Before we jump to this conclusion, let us consider other Bible verses. In order to understand one verse, we need to look for others! What does it mean that bodies and souls are “destroyed” in hell?

The Lord Jesus Christ said, “For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?” (Matthew 16:26 KJV). Mark 8:36 KJV says, “For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?” Luke 9:25 KJV says, “For what is a man advantaged, if he gain the whole world, and lose himself, or be cast away?” Losing your eternal soul is the greatest of all losses, so take this topic seriously!

In the context of these verses, Jesus Christ told His Jewish disciples to “take up [their] cross, and follow [him]” (Matthew 16:24). “For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it” (verse 25). They should not fear losing their earthly lives for His sake. What is most important is that they not lose their souls!

When Matthew 10:28 speaks of the soul and body being destroyed in hell, it is referring to the body and soul of a person becoming useless and worthless, degenerating, the very identity of the person being lost. In other words, the lost person in hell becomes a nobody. The “rich man” in Luke 16:19,22, was just that, just another rich man—unlike Lazarus, he did not have a name. That is what Jesus meant when He said the person in hell “loses his soul” and “loses himself.” Luke 9:25 KJV says, “For what is a man advantaged, if he gain the whole world, and lose himself, or be cast away?” To lose yourself means to lose your identity. In hell, one becomes a nameless, worthless creature.

Jesus Christ declared there is more to life than this physical world and its temporal possessions. There is a spiritual world—an afterlife—to consider. Jesus asked, “For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?” Does it make sense to emphasize this temporary world and its corruptible goods, to the point of ignoring your eternal soul, and wind up losing it in hellfire forever and ever?

There is more to a person than just the physical body. Your inner man—your soul, your spiritual body—is everlasting. To ignore Jesus Christ’s finished crosswork as sufficient payment for your sins, is to remain dead in those sins, resulting in you spending eternity suffering God’s wrath in the lake of fire literally as a nameless, hopeless, disfigured creature. Your soul is not worth losing! Trust Christ as your personal Saviour today!

Now, let us look at verses that demonstrate how those in hellfire will exist forever and ever in torments. Revelation 20:10 KJV says, “And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.” The beast (antichrist) and the false prophet have already been there in the lake of fire for 1,000 years and they have not been annihilated! The Bible says “they shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.” Can the Bible be any plainer? People in hellfire are tormented forever and ever—there is no annihilation, no passing into nonexistence.

Mark 9:43-48 KJV repeats five times that hell is “the fire that never shall be quenched.” By the way, modern Bibles either partially or completely remove verses 44 and 46:

“43 And if thy hand offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter into life maimed, than having two hands to go
into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched:
44 Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.
45 And if thy foot offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter halt into life, than having two feet to be cast into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched:
46 Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.
47 And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out: it is better for thee to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye, than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire:
48 Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.”

This phrase “where the worm dieth not,” quoting Isaiah 66:24, refers to the unsaved person’s soul lasting for all eternity. Just like worms (maggots) eat decaying flesh in the natural world (see Acts 12:23), the soul of a lost person will burn in hellfire forever. Their “worm” will never die. Their soul degenerates into what the Bible calls a “worm,” something that will never die. They will last forever. Jesus Christ’s soul was said to have become a “worm” when God’s wrath was poured out on Him at Calvary (Psalm 22:6). Lost people will experience a similar situation in hellfire forever and ever.

Matthew 18:8 and Matthew 25:41 both speak of hell as an everlasting fire:” if those in hellfire cease to exist, then why does the fire last forever? In 2 Thessalonians 1:9 KJV, the lost world will be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power.” They will be punished from His presence; that is, eternally separated from God forever. If they were annihilated, would that be everlasting punishment? No, that would be ended punishment! Therefore, there is no annihilation. Their punishment in hellfire lasts forever and ever. Daniel 12:2 speaks of them that “sleep in the dust of the earth” (physically dead), and when they are resurrected bodily, some of them will awake “to shame and everlasting contempt—shame and everlasting worthlessness!

We find even more Scripture in the little book of Jude that refutes the heretical idea of annihilationism. Jude 1:7 KJV explains: “Even as Sodom and Gomorrha, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire.”

Now, we know from Genesis chapter 19 that fire rained down on Sodom and Gomorrah, but this verse says eternal fire.” Obviously, this is a reference to the people of Sodom and Gomorrah facing hell and the lake of fire, because the fire that rained down from heaven in Genesis chapter 19 stopped. Once the inhabitants of Sodom and Gomorrah died physically, their souls continued burning and they woke up in hell!

Jude 1:13 KJV, “[false teachers are] raging waves of the sea, foaming out their own shame; wandering stars, to whom is reserved the blackness of darkness for ever.” This verse says “darkness for ever, leading us to conclude that the lake of fire is everlasting. Some modern Bibles omit this phrase too!

The Bible says in Revelation 14:10-11 KJV: “[10] The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb: [11] And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name.” How long will the torment of the lake of fire last? “For ever and ever.” The Bible says “they have no rest day nor night”—this is only true if there is no annihilation. God’s wrath against their sin will never be satisfied, so their torment will last forever!

Currently, when a lost person dies, his or her soul goes into “hell,” a spiritual place of torments (according to Luke 16:22-28). Every lost person from the ages past is here and they are waiting for their bodily resurrection. “Hell” is like the holding cell, and the lake of fire is their destination. At the Great White Throne Judgment, these lost people will be resurrected bodily, brought before the Lord Jesus Christ to be judged and given their punishment, the everlasting lake of fire (Revelation 20:11-15).

Now, do not be confused when Revelation 20:15 says “second death.” “Death” means “separation”—“death” does not mean annihilation or complete destruction (cessation of existence). These people have already experienced a physical death (when they died on earth, their body separated from the soul and spirit). But, this “second death” is being eternally separated from the presence of the Lord.

That lake of fire in Revelation chapter 20 is literally forever. Just like the believers’ bodies will be made to last all eternity in heaven, the lost unbelievers’ bodies will be fashioned to last all eternity in the lake of fire. The flames of hell will preserve the souls of the lost (see Mark 9:48-50), just as the flames did not consume the burning bush of Exodus 3:2-3. When the Bible says “the second death,” it does not refer to lost people literally dying forever and becoming nonexistent, it means they are separated from God forever. They still exist, even in hell!

People in hellfire will never receive eternal life, they will receive eternal death, eternal separation from God. God has given them a chance to escape through faith in the Gospel of Grace, so He can be totally righteous and just for letting them suffer forever (after all, they rejected the fact that Jesus Christ suffered all that He did on their behalf). God’s justice demands that if a person refuses His Son and His offer of salvation, He has every right to damn them to a lost eternity. The Lord Jesus Christ has done everything to give everyone a chance to avoid the awful lake of fire. Yes, it is sad when people go to hell, so that should encourage us to tell our loved ones the Gospel of God’s Grace… before they go to hell too!

Are you saved today? Have you trusted in the Lord Jesus Christ as your personal Saviour? If you have not done so, you are on your way to hell! But, you do not have to go to hell. Jesus Christ did everything on Calvary so that you would not have to suffer in the lake of fire for your sins. “Christ died for our sins, He was buried, and was raised again the third day” (1 Corinthians 15:1-4). Trust in Christ alone, and God will save you forever!

If you reject Jesus Christ, refusing to trust in Him, you will remain dead in your trespasses and sins, so your eternal destiny will be to fry in the everlasting lake of fire.

Ignorance of God’s Word is a Major Mistake (by Nolan Guilbeau)

July 29, 2009

by Nolan Guilbeau Published in The (Opelousas, Louisiana) Daily World
℅ Shawn Brasseaux

The Lord has given man the ability to reason. The apostle Paul appeals to his audiences, delivering the simple message of the gospel of Christ (II Corinthians 11:3) and “reasoning with them from the Scriptures” (Acts 17:2; Acts 18:4). Life experiences teach valuable lessons.

Apart from God’s enablement, it is impossible to reason with a “fool” because fools reject godly wisdom. They flaunt their earthly degrees, thinking they possess great knowledge (1 Corinthians 8:2), yet they are actually ignorant of God’s Word. They refuse the greatest message of all, the simple testimony of the Bible of salvation in Christ. “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction” (Proverbs 1:7). “The way of a fool is right in his own eyes: but he that hearkeneth unto counsel is wise” (Proverbs 12:15).

True Christians are not offended or agitated when they hear or read the Gospel of the Grace of God. As in times past, unbelievers continue to scoff, ridicule, blaspheme and willfully reject the only source and guide under God’s heaven which leads to eternal life: the Scriptures and the person of Christ. Instead, they love “spiritual darkness rather than light [Jesus Christ]” (John 3:19).

Contrary to the belief of some, it doesn’t require a high degree of “formal training” or “learning” to discern the evolution of the patchwork of religion’s deceptive, unbiblical and extra-biblical doctrines. One example is Romanism. In light of Scripture the aberrations are distinctly recognizable. I sense that, in order to be an accepted writer of spiritual matters, some require Bible-believing Christians to submit to “formal training” from the likes of Georgetown, Loyola or any Catholic university, as well as “censorship” by Rome’s Magisterium, so only the gospel according to Rome can be presented. I believe non-Catholics are exempt from the latter, censorship (unlike Catholics who are bound by Rome’s canon laws.)

Reviewing the end results of this flaunted “formal training” came the shocking revelations of not isolated but widespread sexual perversion scandals in the church, the world community once again a witness. The origin and the perpetrators of these reprehensible crimes evolved with formal training under the direct supervision of these acclaimed institutions of Catholicism globally and the Roman hierarchy. So much for formal training. Another chapter to an existing pattern and legacy over the centuries: apparently a spiritually, morally bankrupt religious entity which boastfully proclaims itself to represents the New Testament Christian Church of Christ?

History records the monasteries of a predominant Catholic town of Coblentz, Germany in 1936. They were cesspools of filth and sexual perversions as documented by the Bulwark. Decency finally prevailed in getting the courts to intervene in prosecuting; hundreds were found guilty and jailed as common felons. Some fled to other countries to avoid prosecution. Sound familiar? Perhaps this lewd behavior is one major reason why nuns have left the convent for private apartments and priests have laid aside the Roman collar. Pew Research reports twenty three million Catholics have left the church in recent years with closure of over twelve hundred schools. Wonder why? It’s no fairy tale that, “Evil communications corrupt good morals” (I Corinthians 15:33).

How Far Will You Go For God?

July 22, 2009

by Shawn Brasseaux

[DISCRETION ADVISED: I do warn you that this article is very graphic in nature, as I make reference to the intense persecution and torture of saints down through the ages.]

How far would you go for the sake of getting the Gospel of Grace to our lost and dying world? Could you handle persecution and torture, or would you deny the Lord to escape with your life? Christians down through the ages have suffered so much for their dedication to the Lord and His Word. They refused heresy and religious tradition, and they paid the highest cost—they died at the hands of heartless people. In America, we have freedoms guaranteed by the Constitution and the Bill of Rights; nonetheless, there will come a day even in our beloved country that Christians will be imprisoned and killed for their beliefs. For right now, take advantage of your liberty to tell others about the Lord Jesus Christ and the salvation that can only be found in Him!

From the A.D. 1200s to the A.D. 1800s, the Inquisition was not only a nightmare for Protestants, but a time of intense persecution for anyone who refused to submit to the pope. There was extremely graphic torture. Bible-believing Christians were sawn in half. Their bones were dislocated and/or broken. Their skin was literally peeled down to their waists (yes, while they were still alive!). Their skulls were crushed. Their eyes, ears, and tongues were extracted. Spikes were forced into various parts of the bodies. They were whipped and flogged. Their muscles were ripped apart. They were denied water and food while imprisoned. But, these types of torture are just the beginning; some torture techniques are far worse, far too graphic to list here.

If you were guilty of translating an English Bible or speaking about Christ, you were arrested and given a mock trial. Those who refused to recant (deny) their faith in the Lord would be tortured and/or burned at the stake. Anyone who was tortured and recanted their faith in Christ was to be imprisoned for life. Those who survived were crippled for the rest of their lives. As many as 50 million people (including Christians) died at the hands of the popes during the Inquisition!

At this present time, there is no complete record containing every single account of injustice that happened during the Inquisition. However, the Lord is sovereign, and He has all of those evil deeds recorded in books in heaven. One day, after all of those evil popes and inquisitors have been bodily resurrected, they will stand before the Lord Jesus Christ, God Almighty, at the Great White Throne Judgment. The Lord will have vengeance on behalf of all those who died for the sake of His Word. Everything they did will be brought up before everyone else, and they will not escape the justice of God. He will see to it that these evil people have their own special place in the everlasting lake of fire.

Believers suffered long before the horrors of Inquisition. Remember the Old Testament saints and their persecution? Read Hebrews 11:33-40 KJV:

“33 Who through faith subdued kingdoms, wrought righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions.
34 Quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakness were made strong, waxed valiant in fight, turned to flight the armies of the aliens.
35 Women received their dead raised to life again: and others were tortured, not accepting deliverance; that they might obtain a better resurrection:
36 And others had trial of cruel mockings and scourgings, yea, moreover of bonds and imprisonment:
37 They were stoned, they were sawn asunder, were tempted, were slain with the sword: they wandered about in sheepskins and goatskins; being destitute, afflicted, tormented;
38 (Of whom the world was not worthy:) they wandered in deserts, and in mountains, and in dens and caves of the earth.
39 And these all, having obtained a good report through faith, received not the promise:
40 God having provided some better thing for us, that they without us should not be made perfect.”

It does get us to thinking: could we ever make it through the suffering? The answer, believe or not, is YES!!!! If the days of persecution in America do take place prior to the rapture, the Lord would give us the grace to endure and He would strengthen us. He helped His people in the past, so there is no doubt that He would help us too. We just have to leave it in the Lord’s hands for now, because we have never been promised persecution-free lives. In fact, we recall what the Apostle Paul wrote about us as members of the Church the Body of Christ: “Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution” (2 Timothy 3:12 KJV). And, “Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ” (2 Timothy 2:3 KJV).

Come what may to us as Christians, let it redound to the glory of God!

What is the “Lord’s House?”

July 22, 2009

by Shawn Brasseaux

Ever since the Dispensation of Grace began with the Apostle Paul, and the doctrines of grace were made known to man, erroneous and heretical ideas have crept into the Church the Body of Christ to pollute those glorious doctrines. Today, it can very difficult to establish what doctrine is God’s pure Word (that is, the Bible rightly divided), and what doctrine is simply man-made religion (unbiblical and/or non-dispensational Bible teaching).

No matter how wrong and false it is, church tradition (denominationalism) can be extremely hard to notice and even more difficult to abandon. Because the common church member takes for granted the “education” of the church leadership, they never bother to check the Scriptures to see if what was said is really what God said to them. They remained captivated by scholarship, simply relying on what the preacher or priest said.

For instance, many Christians refer to their local church building as “the Lord’s house.” At one time, I held to the nonsensical idea that I had to visit a local church building in order to be in “God’s presence.” We hear preachers pray, “Lord, be with us in this place….” Sometimes, you might hear Matthew 18:20 quoted at prayer meetings: “For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.” As one hymn claims, “There’s a sweet, sweet spirit in this place, and I know it’s the Spirit of the Lord!” Does God really dwell in church buildings? Should we be asking God to “be with us?” Must we go to church to “visit God?”

Many sincere people quote Psalm 145:18 KJV: “The LORD is nigh unto all them that call upon him, to all that call upon him in truth.” Does that mean that God occasionally leaves us, and that we must “call upon Him in truth” in order to have Him return to us? The only what we will make sense of this is if we use God’s Word, God’s way. We must approach the Bible dispensationally (all of the Bible is for us, but not all of the Bible is to us or about us).

Firstly, there is nothing special about a church building: it is a structure built by men using common materials. According to the Bible, the church building is not the issue; the activity that occurs in the building is the issue. The Apostle Paul told the Athenian intellectuals and philosophers on Mars’ Hill: “God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands(Acts 17:24 KJV).

The pagans to whom Paul spoke believed their mythological gods and goddesses did live in their temples and shrines (especially on Mount Olympus in Athens, which was close to where Paul spoke that!). Paul educated them: “The LORD God of heaven dwelleth not in temples made with hands!” Why do Christians today claim that God dwells in their church building when the Apostle Paul criticized the pagan Gentiles for holding to the same ridiculous idea? It makes no sense.

According to the Exodus 40:33-35 KJV:

“33 And he reared up the court round about the tabernacle and the altar, and set up the hanging of the court gate. So Moses finished the work.
34 Then a cloud covered the tent of the congregation, and the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle.
35 And Moses was not able to enter into the tent of the congregation, because the cloud abode thereon, and the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle.

The verses above tell us that, in time past, God did manifest Himself in the Old Testament Israel Tabernacle and Temple. They were “the house of God,” “the LORD’s house,” and “the house of the LORD thy God” (Exodus 23:19; Joshua 6:24; 1 Kings 7:12,50,51; 2 Chronicles 7:2; Psalm 116:19; Jeremiah 7:1-4; Jeremiah 27:16; et al.). God was with Israel in the presence of the Shekinah glory (the cloud) hovering over the Tabernacle. Over time, Israel’s Temple grew apostate—Jesus Christ condemned it as a “den of thieves” during His earthly ministry (Matthew 21:13; Mark 11:17; Luke 19:46). Eventually, God left the Temple.

In Acts 7:47-50, when the prophet Stephen is recalling the nation Israel’s history, he says (being filled with the Holy Ghost):

“47 But Solomon built him [the LORD] an house.
48 Howbeit the most High dwelleth not in temples made with hands; as saith the prophet,
49 Heaven is my throne, and earth is my footstool: what house will ye build me? saith the Lord: or what is the place of my rest?
50 Hath not my hand made all these things?”

Notice how Stephen said that God did manifest Himself in the Temple and Tabernacle of Israel. But, this is not true in our dispensation.

GOD’S HOUSE HAS MOVED!

In our Dispensation of Grace, God does not dwell in any manmade structure (in fact, the Second [that is, Herod’s] Temple was destroyed by Roman Emperor Titus in A.D. 70). Pagan religions today have shrines, mosques, temples, and cathedrals where you can supposedly “find God,” or some “deity”—anything and everything but the God of the Bible, JEHOVAH, the Lord Jesus Christ.

When we call a local church “the Lord’s house,” we are no different from the superstitious pagans around the world who claim their god dwells in their religious building. Today, the Lord dwells in the hearts of genuine Christian believers, in the Person of the Holy Spirit. The Bible says that we Christians, members of the Church the Body of Christ, are “temples of the Holy Spirit.” Our bodies are “the Lord’s house.” Let us read (and most importantly, believe) the following verses:

  • 1 Corinthians 3:16,17 KJV: “Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are.”
  • 1 Corinthians 6:19 KJV: “What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?”
  • 2 Corinthians 6:16 KJV: “And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.”
  • 2 Timothy 1:14 KJV: “That good thing which was committed unto thee keep by the Holy Ghost which dwelleth in us.”

Wolves in Sheep’s Clothing

In his last epistle, only a short time before his martyrdom, the Apostle Peter is preparing his Jewish believers to go through the Tribulation. Remember, these believers were not members of the Church the Body of Christ—they were believers of the Kingdom Gospel, the Gospel that the Lord Jesus Christ preached during His earthly ministry (Matthew 4:17; Matthew 9:35). We as members of the Church the Body of Christ will not go through the Tribulation because we are not associated with Israel’s prophetic program.

While Peter is Israel’s apostle, not our apostle, we can still glean some information from 2 Peter 2:1-3 KJV:

“1 But there were false prophets among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.
2 And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of.
3 And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not.”

In the verses previous to this passage, Peter described how God used holy men (His prophets) to speak on His behalf (2 Peter 1:19-21). But, as Peter wrote in the above passage, there were also false prophets, allies of Satan who preached false information in order to misled the nation Israel. Actually, false teaching is not something new. It has been around ever since Genesis 3:1 and the fall of man, when Satan caused Eve to question and deny God’s Word

Peter is warning His Jewish readers not to fall prey to these false teachers and their “damnable heresies.” The Bible says, many shall follow their pernicious ways.” By the way, that word “pernicious” means “fatally harmful;” the masses of people will literally follow false teachers to their own eternal doom! These false teachers intend on taking advantage of you, extorting money from you in the name of religion—they will claim to be serving Jesus Christ, too!  “Through covetousness shall they with feigned [faked] words make merchandise of you.” They sound so good, and yet they are totally false! For instance, just the other day, a dear man who attends my local church was telling me that his wife watched a nutty preacher on television who told his viewers “God has a prophetic word for you, and you can receive it if you send in your donation of ___.” What a SCAM, and yet, the common church member is duped into literally “buying in” to it!

I could list a number of people right now who are deceiving millions of Americans—Bible teachers and pastors who are “making merchandise of people.” As Peter said, they have crept in secretly, so you will never suspect their agenda is to extort money from you. They have “a form of godliness, but deny the power thereof,” as Paul wrote in 2 Timothy 3:5. You must, must, MUST be careful, because false teachers are popping up everywhere. People in my own family have been so misled regarding spiritual matters, and though my parents and I have tried to warn them, most of them refuse to listen to Scripture. My friends, for the most part, are so confused and unlearned in the Bible, and they show little to no interest in learning.

The common people of a religious group or denomination are poor compared to most church leaders, who are anything but poor! For instance, one “Christian” group will pray for you, but you have to become a member of their church and pay 1.5 Euros (U.S. $2) per submission, or remain a nonmember and pay a fee of three Euros (U.S. $4) for them to pray for you! How upsetting to see people being robbed in this religion; their prayers are going unanswered, and this group is no more “Christian” in nature than the devil! The more you pay, the more they “pray” for you! Pitiful!!!

Let us consider the warning the Apostle Paul gave the Ephesian church leaders in Acts 20:28-31 KJV:

“28 Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood.
29 For I know this, that after my departing shall grievous wolves enter in among you, not sparing the flock.
30 Also of your own selves shall men arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away disciples after them.
31 Therefore watch, and remember, that by the space of three years I ceased not to warn every one night and day with tears.”

Paul cried, warning the Ephesians not be deceived by “grievous wolves.” They would have a good outward appearance, they would pretend to be Christians, but they were actually false teachers. Let us consider 2 Corinthians 11:13-15 KJV:

“13 For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ.
14 And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.
15 Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.”

Keep an eye out for false teaching, and when you spot it, flee! Study the God’s Word (the King James Bible) “rightly divided” like 2 Timothy 2:15 KJV says, and get a firm understanding of the Pauline epistles of Romans through Philemon. Most of this false teaching is directed toward twisting or completely removing the Pauline epistles, and trying to force you under Israel’s legalistic program of time past. Be prepared and stand firm in the Scriptures, so you are not “tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight [trickery] of men and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive” (Ephesians 4:14 KJV).
