The God of gods

People of the world religions find it appalling that Christians can be so “arrogant.” What makes the God of the Christian Bible so supreme? We will let God Himself answer that question in Psalm 96:4-6 KJV: “For the LORD is great, and greatly to be praised: he is to be feared above all gods. For all the gods of the nations are idols: but the LORD made the heavens. Honour and majesty are before him: strength and beauty are in his sanctuary.” The JEHOVAH of the Bible is not some idol of wood or stone. He does not dwell on the mantel of our fireplaces and He cannot be found in any manmade structure. He cannot be contained in a communion wafer. He is not an imaginary old man sitting in the clouds. He is the Almighty God, the Creator, the Redeemer of Israel and the world. He ALONE is God.

He is the “eternal God” (Deuteronomy 33:26). “Thou art great, O LORD God: for there is none like thee, neither is there any God beside thee” (2 Samuel 7:22 KJV). Revelation 4:11 KJV, “Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.” The Bible says the LORD (God the Son) has created everything for His own pleasure; no god of any of the world religions can make this claim.

Isaiah 46:9,10 KJV explains: “…for I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me, declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure:” The Lord of the Bible does not need to get permission from anyone; He does what He wants, when He wants to, and gives account to no one. He is sovereign, and His decisions will stand firm. He allows man to do as he pleases, but there will come a day when God will force His enemies (unbelieving mankind and its pagan idols) to be His footstool (Psalm 110:1).

“Forasmuch as there is none like unto thee, O LORD; thou art great, and thy name is great in might” (Jeremiah 10:6 KJV). The Lord clearly demonstrated His power over the Philistine god Dagon in 1 Samuel chapter 5. Prior to the mass exodus of the Israelites, He proved that He was superior to the gods of Egypt. King Nebuchadnezzar, in Daniel chapter 4, had to admit that Daniel’s God was “the most High.” Psalm 145:3 KJV: “Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised; and his greatness is unsearchable.” The Bible says that we cannot even begin to fathom the greatness of the Lord—He is so far beyond our minds!

But, the most fascinating thing about the JEHOVAH of the Bible is that He “made Himself of no reputation” (Philippians 2:7 KJV). The man Jesus Christ of Nazareth was really the JEHOVAH from Old Testament Israel! No god of any religion anywhere has ever humbled himself to become a man. No pagan god died for the sins of man. No world religion teaches resurrection, justification, sanctification, forgiveness, and eternal life through the Almighty Creator God becoming flesh! Every religion is false, imagined by man. The Lord God, Jesus Christ, is just as real as you and I. The Triune Godhead, He is God! He is the God of gods. The God of gods.
