When you hear the name of “Jesus,” what or who comes to memory? Most would immediately think of a humble Jewish carpenter who died a martyr’s death 2,000 years ago. Jesus was and is so much more than that—there is no one else like Him, and no one will ever come close to measuring up to Him.

Jesus Christ spoke to Moses in the burning bush at Mount Sinai (John 8:52-58 cf. Exodus 3:12-14). Jesus Christ was and is the LORD of the Old Testament (1 Timothy 6:15; Revelation 4:8). Jesus Christ was the Creator God of Genesis 1:1 (John 1:1-4,14; Ephesians 3:9 in KJV; Hebrews 1:1,2; Revelation 4:11). Jesus Christ is the Son of God: that is to say, God manifested in the flesh (Romans 1:4). The Bible tells us that Jesus Christ is the sole Mediator between God and humans (1 Timothy 2:5).

Philippians 2:6-11 is an awesome passage regarding Jesus of Nazareth: “[Christ], being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: but made himself of no reputation, and took upon himself the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: and being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. Wherefore God hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”

Stop and think. The Lord God Almighty stooped to our level—willingly—just to provide the remission of sins with His divine blood. Jesus left all His glory behind, and let His created beings crucify Him, just so we undeserved sinners could enjoy His free gift of grace and salvation. He knew it all before it happened, but He never turned back. There was no anesthetic as He hung: He chose to remain on that cross to die for every person’s sins. Jesus Christ is not rotting away in a grave, but He broke the powers of hell and the devil. Jesus Christ resurrected in great power (1 Corinthians 15:1-4), never to die again. Is Jesus Christ just your Creator, or is He your personal Saviour?
