The Gospel of Grace Provides Eternal Salvation

Have you ever sat quietly and thought of eternity? If you were to die, have you thought of where you would go? Do you have complete assurance of going to heaven? Perhaps you are far too busy in this life to ponder the next one, and you may not even care about eternity. For those who would like to know, here is the salvation plan—plain and simple, as God made it.

God left His Word in human hands so that everyone would have the chance to know their eternal destiny with absolute certainty. You have an opportunity to make a decision to come to a knowledge of salvation through the Lord Jesus Christ. I strongly encourage you to take the Lord’s offer this very minute and run with it (2 Corinthians 6:2). It is too late to do anything once you die, so please take this seriously.

Salvation is a necessity for everyone. You are a sinner, not because you sin, but because you are born a sinner; you are born a child of Adam, and you have inherited a sin nature (Romans 3:23; Romans 5:12-19). You sin because of your sin nature, not vice versa. God’s righteous nature demands that everyone who sins must die, and be eternally separated from Him (Romans 6:23; Romans 8:6-8). However, God has already done everything to cancel out your sin debt completely, and He will apply Christ’s righteousness and faithfulness to your “account” once you place your faith in the Gospel alone as means for salvation. You are already forgiven, but this is not license for you to continue sinning (Romans 6:15).

Through Jesus Christ’s divine bloodshed, death, burial, and resurrection, everyone has been reconciled with God (1 Corinthians 15:1-4; 2 Corinthians 5:18-19). Neither you nor any church can play any role in your reconciliation with God. Christ’s righteousness saves you. Period. Romans 10:9,10 and 1 Corinthians 15:1-4 tells us that we need to trust in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Saviour by relying exclusively on His righteousness, His sinless bloodshed, and His resurrection as means for salvation. Just believe (having faith, trust) in the Gospel of God’s Grace for salvation. It is so simple, yet so many will refuse God’s generous offer. I hope you think about it, and I hope you choose wisely. The ball is in your court now.

Vigilant Christians Are Facing Censorship (by Nolan Guilbeau)

In light of Scripture, the signs of the end times of the present Church Age are recognizable. Following is a prophetic warning by the Apostle Peter concerning the appearing of false teachers in his era, applying to the present latter days as these conditions only get worst before the Lord returns.

Peter wrote: “There shall be false teachers among you who privily [secretly] shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them. And many shall follow their pernicious [destructive] ways by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of. And through covetousness shall they with feigned [faked] words make merchandise of you” (II Peter 2:1-3). Paul’s epistle to the Corinthians states that Satan is “the god of this world” (II Cor. 4:4)

This nation, founded on Biblical principles, is constantly being buffeted and challenged. America is probably the last bastion and defender of Biblical truths. Thanking God there are still just laws remaining in force that enable citizens to live in a free society to express our views on any issue. One of our founding fathers, Thomas Jefferson, and others, emphasized it was imperative for the people of a nation to have free exercise of speech in order to remain free. And now, enemies of Christ that come to America are facilitated — emboldened with these privileges to engage in activities which are destroying this country.

Imagine, freedoms granted by our own Constitution that, in essence, allow political forums for those who seek to harm us and even religious denominations with flawed theologies and philosophies to vent their heresies and undermine these freedoms. They come to this country knowing they will not be greeted with a ticking device or a poisoned cup. So, they continue to load up the Trojan horse almost unimpeded to spread their political and blasphemous religious and secular humanistic beliefs.

Even in recent times some came to America for publicity to the world community and some to receive their coveted earthly awards and accolades with red carpet treatment.
When Bible-believing Christians object and intervene in an attempt to safeguard Biblical doctrines and values, these hideous destroyers and their supporters scream, whine, wail, engage in name-calling, ridicule and show open hostility and hatred because their poor golden calf has been gored. But, of course, by their standards, the Bible-believing Christians are the bigots.

Evidently, their mentality is one of censorship when it disagrees with their twisted teachings and philosophies. The adversary, Satan, that ole devil himself, doesn’t want discussions on Biblical texts to take place; because, in that process, the truth of Scripture will come forth and some might be convicted by the Holy Spirit to believe on the simplicity of salvation through faith by the saving gospel of Christ of the Scriptures, and cause him to lose one of his deceived followers. Bible-believing Christians can rejoice to be labeled idiots for Christ, rather than fools for the devil. The rewards for the genuine Christians are out of this world.

Meriting Favor with God is Impossible

I often hear of good, respectable people doing their absolute best to merit favor with God. I know they want to do what is right, and I commend them for their efforts. It is frequently said that if you can keep the Ten Commandments, then you are destined for heaven. Basing your eternal destiny on this concept is quite dangerous, and that road thought to be paved to heaven is only a spiritual dead end. It is quite heart-wrenching, which is why I want to politely proclaim the Truth while I still have the opportunity. There will be many disappointed people in eternity, and I do not want any of you to feel that deep sadness.

Romans 4:4-5 explains that God applies His own righteousness to everyone who believes in Jesus Christ as Saviour. God does not want us to work for our salvation. Biblically speaking, people are not only ignoring God’s grace (unmerited and undeserved favor), but they are also claiming that God owes them heaven because of what they did. We do absolutely nothing for our salvation. We simply rely on what Christ did for us at the cross of Calvary. God does not owe us anything, and how dare anyone try to force God to give them salvation because of what they have done. What an insult to Christ, the God-man who suffered to bring us precious salvation!

Do you know why God created the Ten Commandments and the Old Testament Law in the first place? The Holy Spirit led the Apostle Paul to write in Romans 3:19-20, “Now we know that what things the law said, it said to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world can become guilty before God. Therefore, by the deeds of law there shall be no person justified in God’s sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.”

The purpose of the Law is not to help us get to heaven; God created the Law to show us that we do sin, and that we break God’s commandments more often than we observe them. The Law only condemns us to hell! No one will ever approach God and tell Him that they are “good enough” for heaven. The Law shows us that none of us—no, not one—is good enough to get to heaven by means of meriting favor with God.

Writer Didn’t Intend to Belittle Catholics

I serve an extremely awesome God and I must be careful as to how I represent Him in my ambassadorship (2 Corinthians 5:20). Neither Mr. Guilbeau nor I intend to belittle and attack Roman Catholics. We both have many friends and relatives who are professing Roman Catholics: many of whom will read this very letter. I can only hope that at least one of them comes to the truth before it is too late.

Do not envision me as self-righteous and egotistic. I am a sinner—as is every other person in this fallen world. I do not hate Catholics; in fact, quite the opposite holds true. My purpose is to warn people that salvation is not through any church, regardless of denomination. I refuse to sit around and watch countless precious souls be led astray from God’s Word.

In Galatians 1:6-9, the Apostle Paul had to address false teaching in the church. If anyone came to them teaching another Gospel, he instructed them to let that person be accursed, eternally condemned. Instead of Paul just hoping someone else would straighten out the matter, Paul spoke up. As my Christian brother did 2,000 years ago, I am driven to speak out as well.

Sadly, instead of simply placing one’s faith in the forgiveness of sins—through Jesus Christ’s bloodshed, death, burial, and resurrection (1 Corinthians 15:1-4)—most everyone adds something to faith in order to obtain salvation.

Whether you add water baptism, good works, tithing, or church membership to faith as means for salvation, the Bible says you are working for salvation. Salvation is God’s gift to humanity, and if you work for a gift in any way, then it really is not a gift (Ephesians 2:8,9).

How can a sinful, mortal human demand that a holy righteous God provide salvation? As the Bible teaches, it is God’s grace, unmerited, undeserved favor that eternally saves us through faith in the finished work of Calvary. May everyone come to learn the truth, and may my Saviour and Lord be magnified as I contend for Him in the Christian ambassadorship.

Contrasting the pope and Jesus (by Nolan Guilbeau)

Recently many of this nation’s news media filled a week of time with publicity accompanied by accolades and majestic pronouncements for the visiting Roman Catholic leader. Perhaps Bible-believing Christians and Evangelicals who were again recently as July 2007 denounced for their faith by this potentate and his hierarchy should be granted equal time to present orthodox Biblical doctrines of salvation from the New Testament. Contrast and judge the following statements as being true or false:

  • Christ wore a crown of many thorns.
  • The pope wears a triple crown of jewels.
  • Christ said His kingdom is not of this world.
  • The pope claims the spiritual and temporal sovereignty of the world.
  • Christ washed His disciple’s feet in the spirit of humility worthy of emulation by His followers.
  • The pope presents his feet to be kissed, demanding genuflection from his audience.
  • Christ carried on his shoulders the cross for his crucifixion.
  • The pope is carried on the shoulders of his servants in uniforms of splendor in self-glory.
  • Christ was poor and lowly with a stone for a pillow.
  • The pope has immaculate palaces and wealth.
  • Christ proclaimed His saving gospel free of charge.
  • The pope sells indulgences and masses.
  • Christ lived a pure, chaste and sinless life.
  • History testifies of many popes who lived immoral, depraved and degraded lives.
  • Christ taught nothing but true scriptural doctrine.
  • The pope teaches some unscriptural doctrines.
  • Christ sent His Holy Spirit, His Vicar on earth.
  • The pope claims to be the vicar of Christ.
  • Christ is the head of the genuine Christian Testament Church.
  • The pope claims to be the head of the New Testament church, yet writers deny identity with Christ’s gospel.
  • Christ taught His followers to pray to God through Him.
  • The pope teaches his followers to pray to the Virgin Mary and the dead saints.
  • Christ taught He alone is the Savior.
  • The pope teaches his church’s works and sacraments are the way to salvation.
  • Christ taught but one mediator between God and man.
  • The pope teaches there are many mediators between God and man.

Once Saved, Always Saved?

April 5, 2008

by Shawn Brasseaux

Certain groups teach that a Christian can lose his or her salvation because of unconfessed sin. Can a Christian lose the salvation in Christ Jesus? Or, can a Christian know that he or she has absolute, undeniable assurance of salvation? Let us see what the Bible says.

The Bible tells us in Romans 6:23, “The wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Would it make sense to say that you can have eternal life, and in the same breath, say that something eternal can also be lost altogether? How is it eternal life if you can lose it? It must have never been eternal life!

When someone says you can lose your salvation, he or she usually means that you have to perform to keep your salvation. You have to confess your sins enough, you have to repent of your sins enough, and you have to do enough good deeds for God to be happy with you. If you fail to do these, you are told that you will lose your salvation. Arminianism, for instance, is a heresy that teaches un-confessed sin (“unrepented-of” sin) can result in the loss of salvation.

Salvation is independent of our performance. We are not under the Law of Moses, we are under grace (Romans 6:14,15); we are not bound by Israel’s legalistic system of performance-based acceptance. “Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us (past tense), by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost” (Titus 3:5). If this is true, and it is, then we cannot keep our salvation by performing. Doing good works does not save us, so how can we keep our salvation by doing good works? It makes no sense!

When we grasp a firm understanding of God’s grace to us in Christ Jesus, we learn that God’s performance is the issue. Our good works are not as important as what Jesus Christ already did on the cross of Calvary 2,000 years ago! If we are saved by the finished cross work of Christ, it would only make sense that we keep that salvation by the finished cross work of Christ.

Let us look at some Bible verses that prove that Christians are eternally secure in Christ. Christians are never, ever in danger of loss of salvation. Why? Firstly, God has sealed Christians with His Holy Spirit. Let us consider 2 Corinthians 1:21,22 KJV:

“20 For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us.
21 Now he which stablisheth us with you in Christ, and hath anointed us, is God;
22 Who hath also sealed us, and given the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts.”

Read Ephesians 1:13,14 KJV:

“13 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,
14 Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.”

We also read in Ephesians 4:30 KJV: “And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.” The Bible is clear that we Christians have been sealed by and sealed with the Holy Spirit—this is everlasting preservation! Romans 8:16 KJV says: “The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:” This sounds like Christians have the assurance of everlasting salvation.

The Corinthian believers, who were the most carnal (fleshly, worldly) of Paul’s converts, were once steeped in paganism and idolatry before becoming to Jesus Christ. Even after they were saved, the believers at Corinth had many problems and arguments among themselves (1 Corinthians 1:10-12). For instance, Paul rebuked them for embracing human wisdom (1 Corinthians 1:18-31; 1 Corinthians 3:18-20), for turning the Lord’s Supper into a drunken party (1 Corinthians 11:20-22) and for indulging in and condoning incest and fornication (1 Corinthians 5:1,2). Despite everything wicked and immoral in the Corinthian church, Paul reassured them in 1 Corinthians 1:7-9 KJV:

“7 So that ye come behind in no gift; waiting for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ:
8 Who shall also confirm you unto the end, that ye may be blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.
9 God is faithful, by whom ye were called unto the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord.”

Did Paul warn the Corinthians, “you had better repent and confess those sins, or you will fall from grace and lose your salvation?” What did Paul say? NO MATTER WHAT, the Corinthians believers were secure in Christ Jesus. If Jesus Christ came, the Corinthians would have been “blameless.” How was that possible? Because Jesus Christ was punished for our sins, and God the Father will not impute our sins to us. We have been given God’s righteousness in Christ (Romans 3:21-25; 2 Corinthians 5:21). We have been forgiven “all trespasses” (Colossians 2:13)—we do not have to confess our sins to get forgiveness!

Notice what the Bible says in 2 Timothy 1:12 KJV: “For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.” Consider 2 Timothy 2:11-13 KJV:

11 It is a faithful saying: For if we be dead with him, we shall also live with him:
12 If we suffer, we shall also reign with him: if we deny him, he also will deny us:
13 If we believe not, yet he abideth faithful: he cannot deny himself.”

The security of the believer in Christ is firmly supported by Romans 8:30-39 KJV:

“30 Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.
31 What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?
32 He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?
33 Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God’s elect? It is God that justifieth.
34 Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.
35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?
36 As it is written [Psalm 44:22], For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.
37 Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.
38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,
39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

The above passage further reiterates that nothing can ever separate Christians from God’s love—and this includes sin! As believers in Christ, we are justified, predestinated, glorified, and called. Will God undo all of that? Will we lose all of those spiritual blessings in Christ? Absolutely not!

Secondly, there is no sin that God’s grace cannot surpass (Romans 5:20,21). “Where sin abounded, grace did much more abound.” Even if a Christian were to commit some gross sin (even suicide)—which the Bible does not encourage—he or she would still be eternally secure. [Note: God’s grace always abounds more when compared to sin, but we are not to use God’s grace as license for sin (Romans 6:1,2)].

As 1 Corinthians 1:9 says, “God is faithful,” and no matter what a Christian does, God has promised every Christian eternal life and eternal salvation. This is not because the Christian is sinless, but because Jesus Christ is sinless. God is obligated to keep His Word because Christ’s shed blood and finished work at Calvary atones for our sins.

Do All Roads Lead to Heaven?

April 5, 2008

by Shawn Brasseaux

Are there multiple ways to heaven? Is Jesus Christ really the only way to heaven? What about those people who have never heard of Jesus Christ? These are valid questions, but they are usually not asked in faith. People who ask these questions are oftentimes hoping to spark an argument and waste your time. Nevertheless, for the sake of those who sincerely seek answers to such questions, we will allow God’s Holy Spirit to enlighten us using the Holy Scriptures to answer the question, “Do all roads lead to heaven?”

JESUS CHRIST: THE NAME ABOVE ALL NAMES

Reverend Moon, Lao-tzu, Muhammad, Joseph Smith, Confucius, Pope John Paul II, Gandhi, and Buddha. These are some of history’s most well-known religious leaders. What makes the Lord Jesus Christ superior to all of them? What sets Jesus Christ apart from all these religious leaders? Who He was.

While Jesus of Nazareth is a Prophet of God (Deuteronomy 18:15), he is more than a Prophet. Jesus Christ is literally the Creator God in a visible, physical form. The Bible says in John 1:1 KJV: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” Verse 14 says, “And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us.” According to the Bible, God’s Word, Jesus Christ is 100 percent God and 100 percent man.

In the Old Testament, the Jews called Jesus Christ “JEHOVAH.” Jesus Christ claimed to be the great “I AM” that spoke to Moses on Mount Sinai (Exodus 3:12-14; John 8:57,58). In Revelation 1:11 and 1:17, Jesus Christ claimed to be JEHOVAH, “the first and the last” (Isaiah 44:6; Isaiah 48:12). Jesus Christ is the Creator God of Genesis 1:1, Colossians 1:15-18, Hebrews 1:2, and Revelation 4:11. Jesus Christ is the promised Redeemer and King of Israel (Isaiah 9:6,7; Luke 1:31-33). Jesus Christ is “the visible image of the invisible God” (John 14:8-10; 2 Corinthians 4:6; Colossians 2:8-10).

No religious leader was born of a virgin—only God the Son incarnate, Jesus Christ, was born of a virgin (Isaiah 7:14; Matthew 1:25). No religious leader lived a sinless life—only the Lord Jesus Christ lived a sinless, perfect life (2 Corinthians 5:21; Hebrews 4:15; Hebrews 7:26; 1 Peter 1:19). Which religious leader died to save mankind for his sins? NONE! Only Jesus Christ died to save mankind from his sins! Jesus Christ is the only mediator between God and men (1 Timothy 2:5). Only Jesus Christ literally arose from the dead with great power and glory (Romans 1:4; Romans 4:25; 1 Corinthians 15:4). One day, God the Father will judge the world by one man, and this one man is Jesus Christ.

Paul told the Athenian philosophers in Acts 17:30,31 KJV: “And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent: because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead.”

JESUS CHRIST: THE ONLY WAY TO HEAVEN

This evil world system would have us to believe that everyone, regardless of religion, will eventually make it to heaven (a heresy called universalism). How can everyone be going to heaven, since some religions believe only their members will go to heaven? Every world religion differs from every other religion. Some believe in many gods, some believe in one god. Some believe in different levels paradise/heaven. Some believe in reincarnation while others believe in resurrection. These are complete opposite views—we cannot all be right. There are absolutes in life, and the way to heaven is one of those absolutes!

The Bible empathically tells us that we can ONLY approach God through Jesus Christ and that Jesus Christ is the ONLY way to heaven, not A way to God and heaven.

John 14:6 KJV:
“Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”

Acts 4:10-12 KJV:
“10 Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole.
11 This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner.
12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.”

1 Timothy 2:5,6 KJV:
“5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;
6 Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.”

The above passages from the Bible clearly indicate that all roads do not lead to heaven. There is an exclusive path to God, and this is not associated with how often we give tithes, how many churches we join, whether or not we were water baptized, and how many good works we have done. If you are not approaching God through the Lord Jesus Christ and His finished crosswork on Calvary exclusively, you will never reach God. Period.

ARE CHRISTIANS “NARROW-MINDED?”

People often whine that the God of the Bible is “too narrow-minded”—maybe they are “too broad-minded?” It is said that God “needs to be more accepting of people who are not Christian, and those who may not agree with the Bible.” God does not need to be anything. We are not God, so we had better stop trying to make God do something He has no obligation to do. Mankind has no right to tell God what He can and cannot do, and what He should do, and how He should do it. How dare people judge Almighty God, and how dare they say that God must accept what they have to offer to Him! If God is the Supreme Authority, and He is, then it is His prerogative alone to determine how the plan of salvation works. God’s Word makes it absolutely clear that all roads do NOT lead to heaven.

The Lord Jesus Christ came first to the nation Israel, to show them the way to God the Father’s standard of righteousness. Acts 4:12 tells us, “Neither is there salvation in any other [beside Jesus Christ]: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.” Jesus Christ is the Saviour, the one and only way to heaven and eternal life. “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me (John 14:6). Jesus Christ has the words of eternal life” (John 6:68 KJV).

“There is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus” (1 Timothy 2:5). Jesus Christ is fully God and fully man, so He can take God by the hand and He can take man by the hand, and join them together! The only way to be reconciled with God is through the finished cross work of Jesus Christ. No religion saves. No religious leader saves. Period. All roads do not lead to heaven.

Furthermore, every religious leader will bow before Jesus Christ! The name of Jesus Christ is the name that is above every name. Consider Philippians 2:5-11 KJV:

“5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:\
6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:
7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:
8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.
9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:
10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;
11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”

God has mandated that if we do not come to Him through Jesus Christ alone (without our “good” works), there is not forgiveness of sins. Can we receive salvation through faith plus works? No. Let me also add that these good works should not to be confused with Christian good works. If we attempt to add works to faith in order to be saved, then we cancel the finished crosswork of Jesus Christ on Calvary, and without Calvary, there is no salvation (Galatians 2:21; Galatians 5:1-5). Christians are instructed to do good works, but the Bible is clear that we cannot attach good works to faith as a means of salvation (Romans 4:1-5; Ephesians 2:8,9; Titus 3:5). All roads do not lead to heaven. One cannot go to heaven by simply acknowledging God’s existence, by doing good, getting water baptized, confessing sins, paying a tithe, going to church, or praying daily. In order to go to heaven, our sin must be dealt with, and sin can only be dealt with at the cross of Calvary. Forgiveness of sins can only be found in Jesus Christ (Acts 5:31; Acts 13:38; Ephesians 1:7; Colossians 1:14). This is another reason why Jesus Christ is the only way to heaven.

If all roads led to heaven, this would negate would Jesus Christ said in Matthew 7:13,14 KJV: “Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction [hell], and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life [heaven], and few there be that find it.” All roads do not lead to heaven. There is one narrow path to heaven, and there will be few who will ever find it. Why? Most people refuse to trust in Christ Jesus; consequently, they remain dead in their trespasses and sins. “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord” (Romans 6:23). You do not have to go to hell! Trust Christ Jesus alone, and God will save your forever!

“If you just do good, read the Bible, go to church every Sunday, believe in God, and you have good intentions and do everything with a sincere heart, God must accept you into heaven! God is forgiving, and would never send a good person to hell.” What a complete lie! Down through the ages past, there have literally been billions of people who have gone out into a lost eternity believing and basing their salvation on such foolishness. Lies and deception are rampant, as Satan is the “god of this world,” blinding people will false doctrine and leading them to have false assurance (2 Corinthians 4:3,4).

THE GOSPEL OF THE GRACE OF GOD (1 Corinthians 15:1-4 KJV)

“1 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;
2 By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.
3 For I delivered unto you first of all
that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;
4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:”

“Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved”
Acts 16:31 KJV

Words, Words, Words: The Human Tongue
by Shawn Brasseaux

[15 March 2008]
2011 Update

Some people can curse up quite a storm. They casually use obscenities as if they were communicating in everyday, normal language. To some, such speech is literally “everyday conversation.” Literature and the media just make it worse.

Institutions of “higher learning” promote books that are anathemas to God. For high school, I had to read some trashy material, and how much worse were the English reading assignments in college! Those books were completely filled with garbage—slang, vulgar, and extremely offensive language. Just the other day, another English professor spoke the “F” word, and the class—except myself—took great pride in that. The devil smiles at that sort of thing. God has been so patient and so longsuffering for all these years. His mercy and grace continue to tolerate such arrogant people. It seems by now that God would have grown tired of our disobedience and would have “let us have it.” However, God is pouring out His mercy and grace, providing ample time for more and more people to get saved in this the Dispensation of Grace. Praise the Lord!

God’s Word makes a few references to vulgar and obscene language, and other words that degrade and disrespect. In this Bible study, we want to consider what God’s Word says about our tongue and speech.

Let us look at Proverbs 18:21 KJV: “Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.” Our tongue (speech) can give life or it can kill—words are very powerful, as you should know. Words can drive someone to the point of suicide, or they can comfort a troubled soul. It all depends on what words are said, and in what manner (tone) those words are said.

Proverbs 15:1 KJV tells us: “A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger.” Words spoken to someone in a harsh, disrespectful, or condescending tone will probably upset the person. But, we can be gentle and loving with our words, and not provoke that person to anger. Again, it all depends on what words are said, and in what manner (tone) those words are said.

We read in Ephesians 4:29 KJV: “Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.” This is a direct reference to words that are “corrupt,” anything from lies to obscenities. God’s Word encourages us to use words that “edify” (build up, strengthen) others—words that minister grace (kindness, respect) to those who hear the words. Vulgar language and lies will only tear someone down.

The Apostle Paul further deals with “foolish talking” in Ephesians 5:3-5, commenting on the fact that such speech should “not be once named among you, as becometh saints.” Believers in Christ Jesus should have no association with “foolish talking,” or any of those other sins in Ephesians 5:3-5 such as fornication and covetousness. The Bible also speaks of “profane and vain babblings,” or conversations that are disrespectful (to God and others), useless, fruitless, and nonsensical (1 Timothy 6:20-21). Such speech is nothing more than “idle, empty chattering.” This would include denominational teaching (vain religious tradition) and human viewpoint.

Colossians 3:5-11 tells us that because we are sinners by nature, we sin. But, if we are members of the Church the Body of Christ, we are told to mortify (put to death) in our daily lives our old sinful desires. On a daily basis, in order to triumph over sin, we must deny the sinful appetites of the flesh. By nature, we want to rebel against God; God’s Word tells us that our old sin nature was crucified with Christ. One of those sins of the flesh is “filthy communication” (Colossians 3:8). Words that are slang or vulgar and words that disrespect or deceive should not be coming out of the mouth of a saint of the Most High God.

As Christians, we should be allowing God’s Word to renew our minds and cleanse our minds of our daily wicked thoughts (Romans 12:1,2; Ephesians 4:23). As Colossians 3:9-11 KJV says:

“9 Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds;
10 And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge
after the image of him that created him:
11 Where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, Barbarian, Scythian, bond nor free: but Christ is
all, and in all.”

Now, understand that even as Christians, we still sin, and we lie at times. Sometimes we let curse words accidently slip out; other times we intentionally curse. We should not be lying to one another (Colossians 3:8,9). As James 1:26 KJV says, speaking to the Jewish believers: “If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man’s religion is vain.” Control your tongue and watch what you say!

In fact, the Bible says some very interesting things about our tongue and speech in James 3:5-12 KJV:

“5 Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth!
6 And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell.
7 For every kind of beasts, and of birds, and of serpents, and of things in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed of mankind:
8 But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.
9 Therewith bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men, which are made after the similitude of God.
10 Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be.
11 Doth a fountain send forth at the same place sweet water and bitter?
12 Can the fig tree, my brethren, bear olive berries? either a vine, figs? so can no fountain both yield salt water and fresh.”

The above verses are straight forward, so we need not comment on them. Moreover, let us consider additional Bible verses that concern our speech. Proverbs 6:17 says that one of the six things the LORD hates is “a lying tongue.” We also read of the “flattering tongue” of a strange woman (whore) (Proverb 6:24). Proverbs 15:2 speaks of foolish speech: “The tongue of the wise useth knowledge aright: but the mouth of fools poureth out foolishness.” Proverbs 10:31,32 says: “The mouth of the just bringeth forth wisdom: but the forward tongue shall be cut out. The lips of the righteous know what is acceptable: but the mouth of the wicked speaketh forwardness [disobedience, perversion].”

The LORD told Israel: “Keep thy tongue from evil, and thy lips from speaking guile [wickedness, lies]” (Psalm 34:13).

The Apostle Peter writes in 1 Peter 3:10,11 KJV: “For he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile: let him eschew evil, and do good; let him seek peace, and ensue it.”

The Bible portrays our tongue as a very powerful tool; it can be used as a weapon to do great damage, or it can lift someone’s spirits. Psalm 57:4 proves that the tongue can be utilized as a “sharp sword.” Consider the following verses from the books of Proverbs and Psalms:

  • Proverbs 12:18 KJV: “There is that speaketh like the piercings of a sword: but the tongue of the wise is health.”
  • Proverbs 15:4 KJV: “A wholesome tongue is a tree of life: but perverseness therein is a breach in the spirit.”
  • Proverbs 17:4 KJV: “A wicked doer giveth heed to false lips; and a liar giveth ear to a naughty tongue.”
  • Proverbs 17:20 KJV: “He that hath a froward heart findeth no good: and he that hath a perverse tongue falleth into mischief.”
  • Proverbs 18:21 KJV: Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.”
  • Proverbs 21:23 KJV: “Whoso keepeth his mouth and his tongue keepeth his soul from troubles.”
  • Psalm 39:1 KJV: “I said, I will take heed to my ways, that I sin not with my tongue: I will keep my mouth with a bridle, while the wicked is before me.”
  • Proverbs 26:28 KJV: “A lying tongue hateth those that are afflicted by it; and a flattering mouth worketh ruin.”
  • Psalm 119:172 KJV: “My tongue shall speak of thy word: for all thy commandments are righteousness.”
  • Proverbs 31:26 KJV: “She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness.”
  • Psalm 10:7 KJV: His mouth is full of cursing and deceit and fraud: under his tongue is mischief and vanity.”
  • Psalm 50:19 KJV: (the LORD speaking to the wicked of verse 16): “Thou givest thy mouth to evil, and thy tongue frameth deceit.”
  • Psalm 12:3,4 KJV: The LORD shall cut off all flattering lips, and the tongue that speaketh proud things: who have said, With our tongue will we prevail; our lips are our own: who is lord over us?”

The Bible further explains how the tongue can be very dangerous, deceitful, and disrespectful:

Psalm chapter 140 KJV:

“1 Deliver me, O LORD, from the evil man: preserve me from the violent man;
2 Which imagine mischiefs in their heart; continually are they gathered together for war.
3 They have
sharpened their tongues like a serpent; adders’ poison is under their lips. Selah.”

Psalm chapter 52 KJV:

“1 Why boastest thou thyself in mischief, O mighty man? the goodness of God endureth continually.
2
The tongue deviseth mischiefs; like a sharp razor, working deceitfully.
3 Thou lovest evil more than good; and lying rather than to speak righteousness. Selah.
4 Thou lovest all devouring words,
O thou deceitful tongue.
5 God shall likewise destroy thee for ever, he shall take thee away, and pluck thee out of thy dwelling place, and root thee out of the land of the living. Selah.”

While the tongue is many times used to ridicule, slander, or attack others, we can use our tongue for the glory of God. Earlier, we read in Ephesians 4:29: “Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.” God wants us to build up and strengthen (edify) others. We can do this by speaking kindly and respectful to others.

We can use our lips to praise the Lord Jesus Christ, too! Psalm 71 is a wonderful passage in that regard:

“22 I will also praise thee with the psaltery, even thy truth, O my God: unto thee will I sing with the harp, O thou Holy One of Israel.
23 My lips shall greatly rejoice when I sing unto thee; and my soul, which thou hast redeemed.
24 My tongue also shall talk of thy righteousness all the day long: for they are confounded, for they are brought unto shame, that seek my hurt.”

“Pleasant words are as an honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones” (Proverbs 16:24 KJV).

Watch what you say, and remember, as the Lord’s Word says, “bridle your tongue!”

Words, Words, Words II: Fruitless Discussions
by Shawn Brasseaux

[10 May 2009]

In March 2008, I wrote an article entitled “Words, Words, Words.” I focused on the usage of slang and vulgar remarks, and how it grieves the Holy Spirit when Christians use profane language (whether it be profanity, or any type of deception such as denominationalism, church tradition, et cetera). We looked at how the tongue can be used to help others or how can be used to harm others. Now, over a year later, we are going to do something a bit different, but along the same lines of communication [pun!]. The Apostle Paul twice taught Timothy to avoid “profane and vain babblings” (1 Timothy 6:20; 2 Timothy 2:16). For years, I understood this passage to be concerning swearing and cursing, but as we will see later on, there is much to these two verses than that.

First, let us look at this portion of Scripture (1 Corinthians 1:18 KJV): “For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness, but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.” In other words, a lost person thinks the Gospel of Grace is foolishness—lost people view our salvation in the Lord Jesus Christ as nonsense. However, as the verse says, for us who are saved, we know that is it not foolishness but rather it is the power of God. So, the same power that God used to create the universe is the power that has now saved me from myself!

One of my weaknesses is that I always have to be right. When talking about the Bible, I have a tendency to argue with Bible skeptics, and while it is good to be zealous for the Lord, I acknowledge this as a weakness. Nonstop talking to people who want to remain ignorant and uninformed does more harm than good—yeah, I am quite talkative once you get me on the right subjects!

When it comes to the Bible, you cannot twist arms. Some Christians mean well, but they may try to “force the Bible down lost people’s throats” (I used to be like that). The Holy Spirit must do the “convincing” by convicting them. Months back, I spoke to someone for over two hours about the Bible and answering her questions, but she was still bent toward her silly ideas after I was finished. Still, remember that God’s Word tugs at a lost person’s heart, and they feel convicted, so we will let God’s Word take care of itself (Isaiah 55:11).

When Jesus commissioned His twelve apostles to go to Israel, He gave His disciples clear instructions. If a Jew would not allow the apostles into their home, and he/she refused to listen to the apostles, Jesus told His followers to “shake the dust” from their feet and go on to those who did have an interest in salvation (Matthew 10:11-15). In other words, Jesus basically told them, “do not waste your breath on those who do not want to listen” (cf. Matthew 7:6). This is what Paul meant by “avoiding profane and vain babblings.”

Now, look at something else Paul told Timothy, which will better explain this concept (2 Timothy 2:23 KJV): “But foolish and unlearned questions avoid, knowing that they do gender [promote] strifes [arguments].” If someone asks you a silly question about the Bible in a sarcastic tone, God says do not bother to answer him or her! “Vain babblings” is another term for “fruitless discussions.” If someone refuses to listen to Scripture, end the conversation. In his final instructions to Timothy, Paul told him not to engage in discussions where foolish people only wanted to argue. See how that fits perfectly with Jesus’s instructions in Matthew 10:11-15?

The Corinthian church had a host of problems. Paul writes to them, “But if any man be ignorant, let him be ignorant” (1 Corinthians 14:38 KJV). Although the context refers to Christians being ignorant regarding spiritual gifts (1 Corinthians 12:1), we can still apply it to people being ignorant about anything in Scripture. If the person (whether Christian or lost) does not want to learn anything from the Bible, let them be “willingly ignorant.” They do not want to know the truth of God’s Word, and we are not obligated to speak with them any further.

Paul also tells Timothy to embrace “good doctrine,” but to “refuse profane and old wives’ fables, and exercise [train] himself unto godliness” (1 Timothy 4:7 KJV). And again, Paul instructs young Timothy to hold on to sound doctrine, “not giving heed to endless genealogies, which minister questions, rather than godly edifying which is in the faith: so do” (1 Timothy 1:3,4 KJV). “Endless genealogies” is a reference to mythological stories passed down as family legends, which were not reliable. These would all bring doubts and confusion, and it would not be healthy and profitable discussions.

So, again, if someone wants to stay confused about spiritual matters, then leave him or her alone. If they want to argue, refuse to continue the discussion and politely tell them you do not want to argue. You will not convince them because only the Lord has the power to “soften their heart.” Avoid silly questions that only promote arguments (about ridiculous topics), because God wants the Bible to be profitable for you, not destructive or burdensome. Also, remember not to compromise God’s truth (the Bible) just to please someone!

Words, Words, Words III: God’s Message to Us
by Shawn Brasseaux

[7 June 2009]

Well over a year ago, I wrote an article entitled “Words, Words, Words.” About two months ago, I wrote the companion article and this time I bring you the third installment of the series. Our theme is still communication, but now we will look at God’s written Word to us. Of course, I am not referring to an audible voice or some angelic vision, but rather to the Holy Bible—God spoke to His holy apostles and prophets, who then wrote those words down. Before we begin, let us review four key definitions: revelation, inspiration, preservation, and translation.

Revelation means that the Lord God has made known information to His prophets and apostles that was not previously known. The prophet Isaiah, for example, writes that God spoke to him in an audible voice (22:14): “And it was revealed in mine ears by the LORD of hosts….” Jeremiah 1:4, Ephesians 3:3-5, and Revelation 1:1 are other examples of revelation. Ephesians 3:3-5 talks about how God revealed the “revelation of the mystery” to the Apostle Paul alone.

The term inspiration (2 Timothy 3:16) refers to God’s Holy Spirit choosing the words that holy men of God wrote down in a human language (see also 2 Peter 1:20,21). Matthew 4:4 says that inspiration is “every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God” (cf. Deuteronomy 8:3; Luke 4:4). These original Bible languages were Hebrew and Aramaic (Old Testament), and Koine Greek (New Testament). Inspiration refers to the original manuscripts, but these manuscripts are no longer extant (they perished centuries ago). This is where preservation comes in.

Preservation is God’s promise of protecting His inspired written Word forever. As Psalm 12:6,7 KJV says: “The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times. Thou shalt keep them, O LORD, thou shalt preserve them from this generation forever.” There are reliable, infallible copies of God’s Word today (more on this in a moment). Jesus Christ said, “Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away(Matthew 24:35; Mark 13:31; Luke 21:33).

Lastly, translation is God’s method of conveying His Word to the peoples of the world, with their own unique language. When God’s Word is translated, it does not “lose its meaning,” nor does it become less authoritative than the original languages. An example of translation is found in Acts chapter 22. Verse 2 says that the Apostle Paul is speaking to these Jews in Hebrew, yet Luke is recording the book of Acts in Koine Greek! Whether in Koine Greek, Hebrew, or English, God’s infallible Word is still God’s infallible Word. Acts 2:4-11 is another example of God’s Word being translated into intelligent human languages.

Now that we have those four key definitions in mind, read Psalm 138:2, as found in the King James Bible: “I will worship toward thy holy temple, and praise thy name for thy lovingkindness and for thy truth: for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name.” The last portion of the verse says that God has magnified His Word above all thy name. Apparently, God takes His Word very seriously, so we had better take it seriously too!

Now look at John 17:17 KJV, as the Lord Jesus is praying to God His Father: “Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.” So, God’s Word is truth; thus, we conclude that anything that is a lie is not of God, for God cannot lie (Titus 1:2). “For the word of the LORD is right; and all his works are done in truth” (Psalm 33:4 KJV).

Modern English Bibles produced during the past 130 years (since 1881) contain errors and lies, so they cannot be God’s pure word. They cannot be of God or from God; they cannot be trusted. They are forged Bibles, such as found in 2 Thessalonians 2:2. Paul wrote, Many corrupt the word of God (2 Corinthians 2:17).

Why are modern English Bibles corrupt? Their New Testaments are translated from the adulterated/corrupt Nestle-Aland Greek New Testament. This text is based on adulterated Greek texts (the Alexandrian manuscripts, chiefly Codices Vaticanus and Sinaiticus, manuscripts that disagree amongst themselves over 3,000 times in the Four Gospels alone!). Bible-believing Christians have rejected these manuscripts for over 1,000 years now. Yet, dishonest scholars want us to believe that these manuscripts are better than the King James’ manuscripts, and poor unsuspecting church members fall for that scam.

The Bible versions debate is a serious matter because God’s pure Word is being threatened. It is a big deal, so never let someone convince you that you are making too much of it. Would you care to read man’s ideas for spiritual advice, or use the words of God as your source for spiritual advice? Do you prefer reading God’s pure words to you, or some adulterated, watered-down modern Bible translation tainted by man? After all, God’s Word is the final authority, not some mortal man’s thoughts and ideas.

A few days ago, I was thumbing through a copy of the New Revised Standard Version (NRSV). Released in 1989, the NRSV is one of the many unreliable contemporary English versions. In fact, it is a version highly popular in one particular false religion (cult). There were so many footnotes on each page, it was ridiculous (“can also be read…,” “some manuscripts have…,” “some manuscripts omit…”). When reading a verse, would you not get confused if a footnote told you to stop in the middle and look below for a phrase that is not found in the text itself? This is an example of the twisting and corrupting that both Peter and Paul talked and warned about.

The Apostle Paul’s warning in 2 Corinthians 2:17 KJV says: “For we are not as many, which corrupt the word of God: but as of sincerity, but as of God, in the sight of God speak we in Christ.” God is warning us through Paul’s writing that many people will corrupt God’s Word (cf. 2 Peter 3:15,16). They wrest, they twist, and they distort the pure Word of God. This is a satanic ploy to discourage man from studying God’s Word. The devil does not want anyone reading God’s Word because the Bible is solid, reliable, and stands against everything the devil advocates. So Satan attacks the Bible!!!

Today, God does not communicate with us by means of an audible voice or a dream/vision. He does not send angels to us to reveal His will to us. We cannot “call God long distance” because God has already left us a message. He has ensured that His preserved Word has been passed down to us, so we have free access to His pure Word today! We read in 2 Timothy 3:16,17 KJV: “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:  that the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.” We have the complete Word of God in the form of the Bible; we need no further revelation from God. The Lord has already told us what He needs to tell us in His written Word.

In the English language, God’s preserved Word and words is the Authorized Version King James Bible (which is translated from the reliable, trustworthy Antiochian/Byzantine Bible texts—the enemies of the manuscripts of modern English Bibles). Do not let someone try to tell you that the King James Bible we have today is not conformable to the 1611 King James Bible: the only differences between the two are spelling changes in the English language and the correction of printing errors.

Although the entire Bible is God’s Word, God is speaking to us today through the 13 books of Romans through Philemon, known as “the Pauline epistles” (they were written by Paul). Paul’s epistles are instructions for salvation in this the Dispensation of Grace and then living the Christian life as a member of the Church the Body of Christ. Using dispensational Bible study is the key to understanding the Word of God: “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth” (2 Timothy 2:15 KJV). All of the Bible is for you; but not all of the Bible is to you or about you. Study the Bible from Genesis through Revelation, but rely more heavily on Paul’s 13 epistles, because they are God’s Word to us specifically.

If you do not think much of God’s Word, then that means you think very little of God Almighty Himself!

Words, Words, Words IV: Isolation
by Shawn Brasseaux

[7 June 2009]

Look at that word “isolation.” It conjures up thoughts of loneliness and separateness, setting the tone for our fourth and final installment in the “Words, Words, Words” series. In part III, we discussed the significance of the Bible versions debate. God has revealed His Word to His holy prophets and apostles, He has moved them to record His inspired Word in human language, He has preserved His written Word through the ages since it was first penned, and He has overseen the translation of His Word into the world’s languages. But, what if God had not done any of this?

God is a Spirit (John 4:24). He is not bound by time or space. He is entirely separate from our dimension. You cannot see Him, you cannot feel Him, and you cannot hear Him. What if God decided to never communicate with us? What if there was no written Word of God? What if God had never sent His apostles and prophets to tell us His Word? What if God never became the man Christ Jesus; what if He would have stayed a Spirit forever? Humanity would be in worse shape today than it already is! We would look up to heaven, and ask Him to talk with us, but we would hear nothing.

Without the Bible, God’s Holy Word, we would never understand our lost sinful state. We would not know our origin… or our destination for that matter! We would be headed for an eternal damnation in the lake of fire, never knowing any better. We would have never even known God’s true nature: His unfathomable selflessness, His abounding grace, His enduring love, His endless mercy, His pure holiness, His gentle longsuffering, His awesome omnipotence, and His profound intelligence!

Without the Bible, God would be some distant Spirit; Someone who would give us the “cold shoulder”… an odd thing, most people do not want God to ignore them, yet most people ignore God! Human nature is pathetic!

Those ancient original Bible manuscripts (autographs) are long gone. Today, we have copies (apographs) of those original Bible manuscripts. It is in the Antiochian/Byzantine stream of Bible texts (the Textus Receptus, or the “received text” handed down by Christians from the apostles) that we find God speaking to us today. Most of us cannot understand Greek, so there must some English copy of God’s Word that is based on those reliable Greek manuscripts: if we are to learn what God wants us to know, we need an English copy that says the same thing as the Greek New Testament.

In English, we have God’s preserved written Word (and words) in the King James Bible. The Greek texts are of little importance because we cannot read Greek. There is a reliable English text just as authoritative and just as God-breathed as the originals and the copies of originals. The majority of the modern English versions (NIV, NASB, NRSV, NKJV, ESV, GNB/TEV, NEB, CEV, et cetera) are based on the Alexandrian manuscripts. As we said earlier, the two chief Alexandrian manuscripts (Vaticanus and Sinaiticus) disagree amongst themselves over 3,000 times in the Four Gospels alone! Even the New King James Version has been greatly altered when compared to the original King James Bible; the NKJV has hundreds of footnotes that question the King James and give credence to modern Bibles’ renderings.

Why do most of the modern English Bibles read differently from the King James Bible? Not because of a mistranslation, but because of different source texts. The modern English versions and the King James Bible come from two separate sources: the former (modern Bibles) are based on perverted manuscripts from Alexandria, Egypt, and the latter (KJB) is based on trustworthy texts from Antioch, Syria. Do you remember what Acts 11:26 said about Antioch? “The disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.” So, on that basis, where do you think God’s Word would come from: Alexandria, or Antioch?

Now that we have established that much, we can address a question that arises: “Why make a big deal about all these Bible versions, because they still contain the plan of salvation and some of it is still God’s Word?” Oh, yes, the modern English versions are not 100 percent wrong… yet. They keep removing phrases from the Bible, watering it down, and publishing “better” revisions, and pretty soon you may not even find one original word in those newer versions.

In part III, we vaguely discussed that Nestle-Aland text: as of right now, it is in its 27th edition—a 28th edition should be published by fall 2009, most likely resulting in the future publication of even more modern English versions! Revise, revise, revise…. Pervert, pervert, pervert…. Twist, twist, twist…. Wrest, wrest, wrest…. Shame, shame, shame!

No matter what happens in the future, we know that there will always be a reliable copy of God’s pure Word somewhere. Thank the Lord today that you have a reliable unadulterated King James Bible, God’s Word to you in your language—English. Thank the Lord that He has kept His promises, ensuring that we have a copy of His plan of salvation and His plan for the ages (His written Word). God has promised to preserve His Word forever: still, man and the devil will do their best to distort and dilute to kept God’s plans from being fulfilled. In the end, God will win!

God will not overlook that because if you fool with God’s Word, you fool with God, and He will not bend to appease you. All those people responsible for corrupting God’s Word down through the ages will answer to Him one day at the Great White Throne Judgment (or sadly, for some, at the Judgment Seat of Christ!). And then, after they are judged at the Great White Throne, they will be given their own degree of punishment in the lake of fire, a place of everlasting shame and suffering and isolation from God! Are you not glad you are not in their shoes?

Is Purgatory Really Taught in the Bible?

February 5, 2008

by Shawn Brasseaux
*Based on an article written 18 November 2007

NOTE: My dear Roman Catholic readers, I love you because the Lord Jesus Christ loved you enough to die for your sins and was raised again for your justification. Friend, I write this study in a humble and sincere spirit, but I will not compromise Scriptural truth for the sake of pleasing the masses and upholding church tradition. I would rather be frank with you and provide you with the knowledge to go to heaven, than give you a “sugar-coated message” and let you go to hell.

On 9 November 2007, our local newspaper, The (Opelousas, Louisiana) Daily World, published a religious column written by a local Roman Catholic priest, “Reverend Mitchell.” In that article titled “Purgatory is not heaven’s waiting room,” Mitchell contended that the Bible supported the idea of purgatory. Is this true? The average Roman Catholic is unlearned regarding purgatory: some Catholics are completely unfamiliar with it, while other Catholics doubt its existence.

In this Bible study, we want to compare “Reverend” Mitchell’s comments to God’s Word, and we will see what the Bible really says about purgatory, if anything. Let us begin.

“Rev.” Mitchell: “Perhaps one of the most misunderstood doctrines of the Catholic Church by non-Catholics concerns belief in the purgative state of the soul sometimes necessary before its entrance into heaven.” (underline emphasis mine)

Just in case we do not understand what the Church of Rome teaches about purgatory, we will look to Catholic Encyclopedia for Rome’s definition:

“Purgatory (Lat., “purgare”, to make clean, to purify) in accordance with Catholic teaching is a place or condition of temporal punishment for those who, departing this life in God’s grace, are, not entirely free from venial faults, or have not fully paid the satisfaction due to their transgressions…. Further than this the definitions of the Church do not go, but the tradition of the Fathers and the Schoolmen must be consulted to explain the teachings of the councils, and to make clear the belief and the practices of the faithful.” (underline emphasis mine)

According to Catholic Encyclopedia, the “tradition of the Fathers and the Schoolmen must be consulted to explain the teachings of the councils.” If the Bible does teach purgatory (which “Rev.” Mitchell will strongly contend later on), then why does the Encyclopedia encourage us to consult the “tradition of the Fathers” to further understand purgatory? The Encyclopedia gives us the answer—purgatory is not a teaching of Scripture, but a “teaching of the [Roman Catholic Church] councils.” Here, the Encyclopedia admits that purgatory has no Scriptural support whatsoever! Purgatory is simply a “tradition of men,” designed to draw us away from the authority of God’s Word (Colossians 2:8). The Bible refers to heaven and hell, but it does not make even a single reference to purgatory. Rome knows it, and we as Bible students know it. Purgatory is nothing more than a fable.

“Rev.” Mitchell claims that the purging of one’s soul is “sometimes necessary before its entrance into heaven.” The Church of Rome teaches that in the state of purgatory, the temporary suffering that the person’s soul experiences cleanses the soul of every venial sin that prevents the person from going to heaven.

On the contrary, the Bible says that the shed blood of Jesus Christ “cleanses us from all righteousness(1 John 1:9) and Jesus Christ “by himself purged our sins” (Hebrews 1:3). In Christ Jesus, “we have now received the atonement” (Romans 5:11). We are “blameless” in Christ Jesus (1 Corinthians 1:8), “holy and without blame” (Ephesians 1:4), “forgiven all trespasses (Colossians 2:13), and we have been given “the righteousness which is of God by faith” (Philippians 3:9). Either Rome is correct, or God is correct. God is right and His Word is the final authority. We have already been purged of our sins through Christ Jesus’ finished crosswork! Period. We have no reason to suffer for our sins in “purgatory.” Purgatory emphasizes our performance instead of what Jesus Christ did for us.

Let us continue reading his column.

“Rev.” Mitchell: “It [Purgatory] is not an alternate place where one goes because he or she isn’t good enough for heaven or bad enough for hell. All those who die in God’s grace and friendship, but still imperfectly sanctified, not spiritually perfect as Jesus commands in Matthew 5:48, are indeed assured of their eternal salvation but after death must undergo some purification to achieve the sanctification necessary to enter the joy of heaven. If nothing imperfect can be found in heaven, and none of us would dare say we are perfect, then what happens to us at judgment after death?” (underline emphasis mine)

“Rev.” Mitchell reassures us that “[Purgatory] is not an alternate place where one goes because he or she isn’t good enough for heaven or bad enough for hell.” That is the exact opposite of the Catholic Encyclopedia, for it claims that purgatory is for those “not entirely free from venial faults, or have not fully paid the satisfaction due to their transgressions.” Evidently, the alleged souls in purgatory were too bad for heaven because they had not yet paid for their sins (remember, according to Roman doctrine, these sins must be thoroughly cleansed before these souls can go to heaven)! Are the people in purgatory too bad for heaven, as the Catholic Encyclopedia states, or were they not too bad for heaven, as “Rev.” Mitchell claims? Mitchell contradicts his own church’s publication! What are we to believe?

In the Bible, “sanctification” means “set apart for God’s purposes.” This is where we get the term “saint.” Strangely, “Rev.” Mitchell states that some people die “imperfectly sanctified.” Exactly what does that mean? God set them apart, but God set them apart imperfectly? What nonsense! Either a person is fully set apart for God’s purposes, or he is not—there is no neutral ground. “Imperfectly sanctified” makes as much sense as “partially infallible!”

“Rev.” Mitchell asked: “If nothing imperfect can be found in heaven, and none of us would dare say we are perfect, then what happens to us at judgment after death?” Moments ago, we addressed how sinful humans can go to heaven—the shed blood of Christ. Humans are imperfect, absolutely, but since we have been given God’s righteousness in Jesus Christ (2 Corinthians 5:21; Philippians 3:9), that imputation makes us fit for heaven! See, again, Jesus Christ is the issue, not our “sinlessness” or sinfulness.

Furthermore, “Rev.” Mitchell ignores the fact that Matthew 5:48—Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect”—belongs to the nation Israel because Jesus Christ was a “minister of the circumcision” (Romans 15:8). Jesus was sent only “to the lost sheep of the house of Israel” (Matthew 15:24). Everything that Jesus said in the Four Gospels, He spoke to Jews under the Law of Moses. We are not Jews, and we are not under the Law (Romans 6:14,15; Galatians 3:28), so we have no business stealing verses from Israel’s program.

Everyone who will be in heaven’s glory will be there only because of the Lord Jesus Christ’s finished work at Calvary (1 Corinthians 15:1-4). They will be in glory not because of their own righteousness, but because of Christ’s righteousness (Romans 4:1-5; 2 Corinthians 5:21; Titus 3:5). What happens to us at judgment after death? Believers in Christ Jesus go to be in His presence in heaven (2 Corinthians 5:6-8); lost people go straight to hell to wait for judgment (Romans 2:5).

“Rev.” Mitchell makes some more outrageous admissions! Notice:

“Rev.” Mitchell: “While the church gave the name to purgatory, the teaching is most definitely based on Scripture. In Matthew 12:32, Jesus declares that if anyone should blaspheme the Holy Spirit, it would not be forgiven him in this world or the world to come. Obviously, there is forgiveness of sin in the afterlife, but when or where?” (underline emphasis mine)

“Rev.” Mitchell freely admits that the Roman Catholic Church named “purgatory.” In spite of that, he says the teaching is “most definitely based on Scripture.” (Yeah, sure!) He then refers us to Matthew 12:32. Yet, Matthew 12:32 says nothing about the possibility of us suffering for our sins before we can get into heaven (look at the context!).

“Rev.” Mitchell does not understand that God designed His Word to be studied in a particular manner: “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth” (2 Timothy 2:15 KJV). God has made divisions in His Word, so we need to make sure that we make those same divisions God made.

Unfortunately, “Rev.” Mitchell uses Rome’s denominational bias to define the “world to come” in Matthew 12:32 as “the afterlife.” However, God’s definition of the “world to come” is something else.

We find that term “world to come” used in Hebrews 2:4,5 KJV: “God also bearing them witness, both with signs, and wonders, and with divers miracles, and gifts of the Holy Ghost, according to his own will? For unto the angels hath he not put in subjection the world to come, whereof we speak.” The “world to come” is Israel’s earthly kingdom. Jesus Christ performed all His miracles to prove that He was about to establish Israel’s kingdom (cf. Hebrews 6:5)! So, what is Matthew 12:32 talking about when it says “whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come?” The meaning of this, according to the Bible, is quite fascinating!

Without going into great detail, understand that God the Father sent John the Baptist to Israel (John 1:6), but the Jews rejected him and let Herod behead him (Matthew 14:10). The Lord Jesus warned in Matthew 12:32, “And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come.” “Rev.” Mitchell ignored the first part of this verse, which is crucial to understanding its meaning!

The Jews rejected God the Son (Jesus Christ) and demanded that Pilate crucify Him on Calvary (Matthew 27:22). So, Israel has already rejected God the Father and God the Son, but Jesus Christ says that speaking against Him can be forgiven. This is why, on Calvary’s cross, Jesus asks His Father to forgive Israel for crucifying Him (Luke 23:34). God the Father does forgive Israel because He sends the Holy Spirit in Acts chapter 2, thereby giving Israel an opportunity for repentance (change their thinking, and accept Jesus as their Messiah-King).

The Holy Spirit is the last member of the Godhead, the only Person of the Godhead that Israel has not yet rejected. Unfortunately, Israel’s religious leaders in Acts chapter 7 stoned their prophet Stephen, who was filled with the Holy Ghost (Acts 7:55). At this point, Israel has committed the sin of Matthew 12:32, blasphemy against the Holy Spirit. So, God began to set Israel and her kingdom program aside (Romans 11:11,12). Accordingly, Israel’s promised kingdom has been postponed for 2000 years. What was the “world to come?” Again, it was Israel’s earthly kingdom.

Matthew 12:32 has nothing to do with us dying and getting forgiveness in the afterlife. Mitchell’s claim about “obviously, there is forgiveness of sin in the afterlife” contradicts what God Almighty said in Hebrews 9:27: “And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment.” Does the Bible say “forgiveness” after death? No, the Bible says “judgment” after death!

The only way you can have forgiveness in eternity and in the afterlife is by trusting in the Lord Jesus Christ as your personal Saviour now, while you are still living here on earth. You do not have to wait until the afterlife to get forgiveness; you can be forgiven of your sins today! By the way, you should know that, once you die, it is too late to trust in Christ Jesus.

When a Christian dies, he or she will then face God to give an account for their Christian life, spiritual maturity, and service (Romans 14:10-12; 1 Corinthians 3:9-15; 2 Corinthians 5:9,10). As a lost person after death, you face God to be judged for your deeds, before being eternally damned to the lake of fire (Revelation 20:11-15)!

“Rev.” Mitchell: “St. Paul, speaking of the day of the Lord in 1 Corinthians 3:15 says, ‘But if someone’s work is burned up, that one will suffer loss; the person will be saved but only as through fire.’” This does not refer to the fires of hell since no one in hell is saved nor can they be saved—it is eternal loss; it does not refer to heaven as no one suffers there but already saved for all eternity. It logically points out to a temporary state where the soul for a time suffers loss it may gain the fullness of joy in heaven.” (underline emphasis mine)

The day of which the Bible is speaking in 1 Corinthians 3:15 is the “judgment seat of Christ” (Romans 10:14; 2 Corinthians 5:10)—this has nothing to do with the “day of the Lord,” as “Rev.” Mitchell stated. (Evidently, Mitchell does not know that “the day of the Lord” and “the judgment seat of Christ” are two different concepts in Scripture). In 1 Corinthians 3:15, we do not read that someone’s soul passes through fire. In fact, the verse says in the King James Bible: “If any man’s work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.”

Even in “Rev.” Mitchell’s perverted “bible,” we can clearly read that a person’s “work”not his “soul”—passes through fire. Again, the Bible says, “If any man’s work shall be burned….” Notice that “Rev.” Mitchell writes: “It [the flames of 1 Corinthians 3:15] logically points out to a temporary state where the soul for a time suffers loss it may gain the fullness of joy in heaven.” My, Mitchell is certainly reading much into the text here! How could this verse “logically” point to purgatory, a topic that is neither in the context of the verse nor in the Bible text at all? Any attempt to force the flames of purgatory into 1 Corinthians 3:15 is nothing more than an effort to corrupt God’s Word and promote silly religious tradition (making the Bible say whatever people want it to say).

“Rev.” Mitchell: “The implications [in 1 Corinthians 3:15] of a spiritual cleansing are very clear.

So, we may have to go to purgatory for a spiritual cleansing? We have to suffer for our own sins before we can reach heaven? Again, the Apostle John writes in 1 John 1:7: “the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.” “I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain” (Galatians 2:21 KJV). Colossians 2:13 says that God “has forgiven me all trespasses.” All that work that Jesus Christ accomplished at Calvary, and it was still not enough to cleanse my soul from sin? Wow, exactly who is that “Jesus Christ,” then? If Jesus Christ Himself, God Almighty, was unable to pay off my sin debt, then how can I as a weak sinful man hope to accomplish this by myself in purgatory? The Bible says, “Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God” (Romans 3:25). Jesus is the “propitiation”—the fully-satisfying payment for our sins. Christ Jesus paid it all!

Romans 6:23 says, “The wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” If there were such a thing as purgatory, it would have to be everlasting, not temporary, for we can never pay for our sins. However, purgatory is an invention of religion, so not surprisingly, it makes no sense anyway. The Bible says in Hebrews 9:14 that “how much more shall the blood of Christ who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?” No purgatory is needed, according to that verse, for “the blood of Christ purges our conscience from dead works!” Hebrews 1:3 says, “…when he [Jesus Christ] had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high.”

“Rev.” Mitchell: “Also, in 1 Corinthians 15:29-30, St. Paul mentions an odd practice of some early Christians which he neither condemns nor condones: baptism by proxy of the dead. He writes, ‘…what will people accomplish by having themselves baptized for the dead? If the dead are not raised at all, then why are they having themselves baptized for them?’ In his argument for the resurrection of the body, St. Paul mentions this practice which is performed with the belief that the dead can be purified so that they may enter into glory; note that St. Paul does not say there is no purification necessary.” (underline emphasis mine)

“Rev.” Mitchell informs us that “an odd practice of some early Christians” was being water baptized for the dead (1 Corinthians 15:29,30). Actually, this is untrue, for Paul never wrote that “Christians” were performing this ritual. In the passage, Paul did not use “us” or “you,” but rather “they,” indicating that whatever this baptism was, Paul did not perform it and none of the believers at Corinth performed it. A third party was performing that baptism. Furthermore, we cannot determine with certainty what “baptism” is spoken of in 1 Corinthians 15:29—it may or may not be water baptism. In addition, Mitchell says this baptism was “performed with the belief that the dead can be purified so that they may enter into glory; note that St. Paul does not say there is no purification necessary.” Mitchell again is reading into the passage, wrongly assuming that Paul is referring to a “baptism” that is “for purification”—again, we know what Paul is speaking of here.

“Rev.” Mitchell: “Make no mistake, one cannot be bought out or paid out of purgatory, only prayed out of purgatory. One cannot buy grace; Mass offerings are just that, a free will offering given as an act of love on behalf of the deceased. The best way to avoid purgatory is to go to confession now, attend Mass, pray, offer sacrifices and works of charity, and live a life of holiness with firm faith and an undivided heart.” (underline emphasis mine)

“Rev.” Mitchell, you are correct, no one can be “paid out of purgatory” because purgatory does not exist! It is only logical that one cannot be bought out of a nonexistent place—after all, it is nonexistent. If someone missed heaven’s glory because they were “dead in their trespasses and sins” (Ephesians 2:1), the person went to what the Bible calls “hell.” If people who died in venial sins are supposedly going to purgatory to pay for those sins before going to heaven, and purgatory is a myth, obviously these “purgatory-bound” souls must actually be going to hell! Why does Mitchell not tell us the truth? Is he willingly withholding biblical facts so as to bolster his misinformation? We think so!

So, what should you do to avoid purgatory? “Rev.” Mitchell gives the classic answer of religion: “DO, DO, DO, DO, DO….” Just do all the good works you can, and then hope and pray you did enough. Offer as many sacrifices as you can. Live a life of holiness. Attend mass. Pray. Go to confession. Heck, go ahead and give some mass offerings and support Rome financially with a “generous donation.” Friend, if that is not extortion, I know not what is!

Ephesians 2:8,9 KJV says: “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast.” Romans 11:6 says: “And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then is it no more grace: otherwise work is no more work.” “Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law (Romans 3:28). But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness”  (Romans 4:5). “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved” (Acts 16:31). None of these verses make any references to works as being necessary for salvation—salvation is by faith in Christ, and by faith alone. God’s Word says we are saved by faith, we are not saved by works; yet, Mitchell says we are saved by works such as confessing sins, praying, offering sacrifices, going to Mass, and so on. Would you rather believe God, or “Rev.” Mitchell? Are we not supposed to obey God instead of some fallible man?

So, according to God’s Word, how can we avoid purgatory? Regardless of what we do, all of us will avoid purgatory, for purgatory does not exist! As we saw, the Bible says nothing about purgatory; the Bible actually contradicts the teaching of purgatory. The Bible says to rely, by faith, on the shed blood and resurrection of Jesus Christ at Calvary to get you to heaven! “Christ died for our sins, He was buried, and He was raised again the third day” (1 Corinthians 15:1-4). You can reject the Gospel of the Grace of God, you can choose to remain dead in your trespasses and sins, but the penalty for doing so is spending eternity apart from God’s glory, burning forever and ever in the lake of fire and brimstone.

If you have not trusted in Christ Jesus alone for salvation, the Bible says that you are dead in your sins, and that you are on your way to hell! The flames of hell are not temporary—they last forever and ever and ever and ever. Trust in Jesus Christ alone today, and you be saved!

SUPPLEMENT: But, Catholics say purgatory can be found in the Bible—in the apocrypha. Is that true!? If purgatory can be found in the apocrypha, does that mean God’s Word teaches it?

Purgatory can be found in the Roman Catholic “bible,” in the Old Testament “apocrypha,” but the apocrypha is not found in the Hebrew Old Testament Bible; the apocrypha books do not claim any inspiration of God, and they are not to be considered God’s Word. Paul warned against forged “bibles,” such as the Roman Catholic “bible,” in 2 Thessalonians 2:2. Praying for the dead and purgatory are taught in 2 Maccabees 12:42-46 in the apocrypha. Let us briefly demonstrate that even the apocrypha condemns itself as being spurious and uninspired of God. Here is the “death blow” of the teaching of purgatory, found in the very passage used to support it! We read about praying for the dead in 2 Maccabees 12:40-46:

“And they found under the coats of the slain, some of the donaries of the idols of Jamnia, which the law forbiddeth to the Jews: so that all plainly saw, that for this cause they were slain…. Turning to supplication [prayer], they prayed that the sinful deed might be fully blotted out. The noble Judas warned the soldiers to keep themselves free from sin,… He then took up a collection among all his soldiers.., to provide for an expiatory sacrifice…. Thus he made atonement for the dead that they might be freed from this sin.” (underline emphasis mine)

Firstly, anyone who is familiar with the syntax of the Bible (the way the words of Scripture seem to flow in thought and meaning) can observe that this passage does not exhibit the characteristics of God-breathed Scripture. It lacks power, it lacks truth, and more importantly, it even contradicts itself! Secondly, notice why God killed these people—the passage says because of their idolatry! individuals then pray for these dead idolaters, that they may be freed from “this sin” (freed from purgatory). When we look at two papal quotes, this quote from Maccabees is exposed to be a forgery.

Pope Gregory X, Second Council of Lyons (1274), ex cathedra (“from Peter’s chair”) stated: “The souls of those who die in mortal sin or with original sin only… immediately descend into hell, yet to be punished with different punishments.” Pope John XXII in a letter “Nequaquam sine dolore” to the Armenians on November 21, 1321 repeated this declaration: “It [The Roman Catholic Church] teaches . . . that the souls . . . of those who die in mortal sin, or with only original sin descend immediately into hell; however, to be punished with different penalties and in different places.” (See Catholic Encyclopedia entry for “hell.”)

Interestingly, Pope Gregory X and Pope John XXII both affirmed the teaching of the Roman Catholic Church: “the souls of those who die in mortal sin or with original sin only, however, immediately descend to hell.” The Catholic Church teaches that idolatry is one of many mortal sins, worthy of immediate hellfire. How can those in Maccabees be praying for those in hell?!?! This quote from Maccabees is clearly not God’s Word—the Catholic Church invented this passage about praying for the dead, and then they created fake “Bible books” to support that heresy. Why? Sadly, purgatory is one of Rome’s most lucrative doctrines!

Rome Speaks (by Nolan Guilbeau)

February 1, 2008

by Nolan Guilbeau Published in The (Opelousas, Louisiana) Daily World
℅ Shawn Brasseaux

Avoiding possible accusations of misrepresenting the following, documentation is referenced to official publications by authors of the highest authority of the Church of Rome. It will be demonstrated from their own publications, statements made through time regarding the Bible as they distort and contradict facts.

  1. “The Scripture indeed is a divine book, but is “a dead letter” which has to be explained.” (Our Priesthood, 155).
  2. Another refers to the Bible as “a dead and speechless book.” (Question Box, 67). The Bible, according to Rome, needs their interpretation for the laity to understand spiritual matters. The apostle Paul and other Bible authors would disagree as any knowledgeable Christian. Paul states, “These [Bereans, 50-54 AD] were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the Word [Scriptures] with all readiness of mind and searched the Scriptures daily, whether those things were so” (Acts 17:11). It’s obviously false that the Scripture is a “dead letter” that needs explanation! Clearly the hearers of the Biblical messages understood for themselves and daily checked out the messenger from the Bible. Thousands heard, believed (simple faith), and were saved to eternal life with Christ (History, the Book of Acts).
  3. Other distortions are, “The Bible was NOT intended to be a textbook of the Christian religion.” (Catholic Facts, 50). Accordingly, then, the Bible is NOT a textbook of Christianity for Catholics.
  4. “The very nature of the Bible ought to prove to any thinking man the impossibility of its being the one safe method to find out what the Savior taught.” (Question Box 1913 ed., 67). To the contrary, this is a blatant denial/rejection of clear Scriptural teaching! Apparently, the Bible is viewed with low esteem by the Roman religious system and defames Christ and Bible authors.
Rome readily admits that it doesn’t use the Scriptures as the “early” New Testament Christian Church did. Their own writers make a “distinction” between the “EARLY” church of the New Testament Christian Church and the religious system at Rome.
  5. “There was far more extensive and continuous use of Scriptures in the public service of the early Church then there is among us [Catholics].” (Dictionary, 509). Historically, the “early Christian Church” used only the Scriptures for it is the New Testament Church established on Jesus Christ, the Rock (I Corinthians 10:4), the apostles, and prophets, with an autonomous, democratic/congregational form of church government, whereas the Roman Church is an “autocracy,” a class of superiors, and a hierarchy.
  6. A Roman bishop (Knoll) presents this authentic test: “If it be not identical in belief, in government, etc., with the primitive Church, then it is not the Church of Christ” (Catholic Facts, 27).
  7. Another authoritative Catholic publication entitled The Spirit of Catholicism, bearing the Imprimatur of the late Cardinal Hayes states, “We Catholics acknowledge readily without any shame, nay with pride, that Catholicism cannot be identified simply and wholly with primitive Christianity, nor even with the Gospel of Christ.”

Incredible, incriminating admissions!! Roman clergy attributes 5th century Augustine as often saying, “Rome has spoken, case closed.” Due to Rome’s many extra Biblical doctrines/dogmas (inventions), it’s fair to say it isn’t identical in orthodox beliefs and government of the early New Testament Church. The cited statements from their own publications brazenly admit the religious system at Rome doesn’t meet the criteria of the New Testament Christian Church of the Scriptures! So be it, case closed!

“[Some] having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof” (II Timothy 3:5).
