Thanksgiving 2009 – Remember to Give God Thanks

This past year has been difficult for many; consequently, you might feel indifferent this Thanksgiving season. Despite the negative news, I have much for which to be thankful, but I am not just referring to material possessions. How I thank the Lord for all that He has done for me, even though I was once His enemy. I am still living, and the Lord brought me through those difficult times.

Grace is something we do not deserve, but God gives it freely to all of us. I am so thankful that I do not have to keep the burdensome Mosaic Law or other ordinances/rules to be in good standing with God (Romans 3:21-24; Galatians 2:20,21). God accepts me in Christ, and my faith is counted for righteousness.

How God sent His Son, heaven’s best, to be slain and shed His blood for our redemption. How His resurrection has defeated the powers of evil and death. And that He had His Word written down, preserved forever in English in the King James Bible (Psalm 12:6,7). That God would love us, having longsuffering so that all could have opportunity to be saved (2 Peter 3:9), though most people will refuse His offer of salvation. God deserves our gratitude.

I am so thankful for my salvation. God has not only saved me from eternal hellfire, but also from works-religion and myself. He has “blessed me with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ” (Ephesians 1:3). Justification, forgiveness, sanctification, eternal life in the Lord’s presence, and joint-heirship with Christ are just some of my spiritual blessings, and they can never be lost. Indeed, I have more spiritual possessions to be thankful for than material possessions, and God has given them to me freely. What will you do with God’s offer of spiritual blessings and salvation?

I wish you and your family a safe and very Happy Thanksgiving.
